Fire of unknown origin wiped out the entire business section of the historic and thriving town of Chestnut Bluff on the banks of Forked Deer. The fire occurred Monday morning about 9 o'clock.
Dr. J. Walter POSTON, one of the most prominent citizens of the county died last Thursday at Maury City, aged 63 years. He had been in failing health for sometimes and during several days preceding his death had lain in a comatose state, growing weaker and weaker.
Dr. J. G. PRICE, specialist of Dyersburg, was called Tuesday to see Mrs. May CLARK, who is very ill.
George T. SMITH, well known buggy dealer, and Mrs. M. V. CUDE, our popular milliner were united in marriage in Dyersburg Tuesday afternoon, Rev. MOSS officiating. The bride and groom were accompanied by Mr. & Mrs. Roy COFFMAN, the party going in Mr. COFFMAN's car.
Isaac ESKEW, a 12 year old boy of Haywood County, was brought here a few days ago for an application to the mad stone owned by Mayor Frank MOORE. The youth had been bitten by a dog supposed to have been afflicted with rabies. The mad stone has been in the possession of the MOORE family for many years.
John TALLY, an 18 year old negro, attempted criminal assault on Mrs. JOWERS, a white woman, in Dyersburg Friday, donating himself as material for a lynching. He was arrested, placed in jail about an hour after the deed. A mob formed about an hour later, smashed the jail door and strung up the negro in a tree in the court house yard. The lady identified the negro yet he denied his guilt to the last. No effort was made by members of the mob to conceal their identity.

Esq. Tom LOVE has traded his farm near town to J. A. STALLINGS for his livery barn, stock and residence in town.
Mr. L. C. HARWELL was a pleasant visitor at this office Monday. He was enroute home from a visit to Trenton and Humboldt.

Prof. Herbert PITTMAN of Alamo is in the city.
