This Indenture made and entered
into this fourteenth day of October
One thousand Eight hundred & fifty seven
by and between Richard Ward of the
County of the County of Haywood and
State of Tennessee of the one part and
Eli S. Novill of said County and State
aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said
Richard Ward for and in Consideration of the sum of
two hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand paid
by the Said Eli S. Novill the Receipt Whereof is hereby Acknowledged
hath granted, bargained, and sold and delivered and
conveyed unto the Said Eli S. Novill and his heirs
and assigns forever a Certain tract or parcel of land
Situated lying and being in Said County and State of
aforesaid, Butted and bounded as follows
Beginning at the South West corner of the original
Entry No 297 in the name of Martha E Goodloe for two
hundred & seventy two acres East 102 1\/2 poles to a stake
and pointers, — Hargettes South west corner, thence North 47
poles to a stake & two hickory pointers and black Oak pointers
Thense West 36 1\/2 poles to a stake, thence South 47 9\/10 poles
to a stake, west 46 poles to a stake, thence North 94 5\/10
poles to the beginning Containing forty three acres with all
and Singular the heriditaments and appurtenances
thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining to the
only proper use benefit and behoof of him of the said Eli S
Novill his heirs and assigns forever and the Said Richard
Ward doth further agree and bound himself his heirs and assigns
to warrant and will forever defend the title of said land
and premises to the said Eli S Novill and his heirs and assigns
forever against the claim or claims of all pessins whatsoever
In witness Whereof the said Richard Ward hath Set his
hand and Seal date above written
