Their father, James sr.<\/strong> is also named in one deed. \u00a0Elizabeth \u201cBetsey\u201d Don Carlos<\/strong> is their sister, married to Robert Cole Don Carlos<\/strong> and separated\/widowed from him around 1821. Carter Morgan Don Carlos<\/strong> is the son of Elizabeth and Robert (variously recorded as Carter M Carlase\/Doncarlas); Carter would have just reached legal age in 1823.\u00a0 William Carter Carlos<\/strong> and Robert Cole Don Carlos<\/strong> are brothers, sons of Archelaus Carlos<\/strong> and Fanny Carter (<\/strong>William is variously recorded as William C. Indenture made 24 February 1817 between Robert Don Carlas<\/strong> of the county of Blount and State of Tennessee and Samuel Badgett<\/strong> of the county and state aforementioned. \u00a0Doncarlas in consideration of $500 to him in hand paid by Badgett…confirm onto said Badgett, his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract of land lying in the county and state in the District South of French Broad and Holston rivers on the West bank of Little River … beginning on the West Bank of Little River at Samuel Badgett\u2019s corner running from there up the river to a walnut at Jacob Tipton\u2019s<\/strong> corner from there on the dividing line between Doncarlas<\/strong> and J. Tipton <\/strong>to a jack tree near Tipton\u2019s <\/strong>house to a pine marked by William Tipton<\/strong> on south west corner to Major John Singalton <\/strong>to the above Badgett line then running with the said Samuel Badgett lines to an oak on the bank of Little River being the beginning. \u00a0Containing 40 acres more or less. This indenture made and entered into this 25th<\/sup> day of March 1817 between James I Green<\/strong> of the County of Blount and State of Tennessee of the one part and Robert C Doncarlas<\/strong> of the same place as the other part witnessed thereafter and in consideration of the sum of $600 dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereas is hereby acknowledged the said James I Green hath executed and sold unto the said Doncarlas his heirs and assigns one certain tract of land situated in the county aforesaid on the Littal [Little] Tennessee River adjoining the lands of Richard Dearmond<\/strong>, James Hall<\/strong> and Wyley Luseter<\/strong> containing by estimation one hundred acres and thirty poles and by the survey more or less and bounded as follows \u2026.To have and to hold the said tract of land with all and singular its appurtenances unto the said Doncarlas his heirs and assigns . Indenture of 23 November 1818 between Wyley Luseter<\/strong> of Blount County, State of Tennessee and Robert C Doncarlos<\/strong> of the same, witnessed that the said Wyley Luseter this day has bargained and sold and does by these present\u2026in consideration of the sum of $610 dollars currency of the United States\u2026.and confirm onto the said Robert C Doncarlos a certain tract or parcel of land situated in the county aforesaid on the south side of Tennessee [Little Tennessee ?] river in the Bend [?] commonly known as Noa [?] containing by survey 89 and one fourth acres\u2026 bounded as follows: beginning at a black oak sapling corner with James I Green<\/strong> \u2026thence to a hickory on the river\u2026including the meanders of the river…to the beginning \u2026To have and to hold the said tract or parcel\u2026<\/p>\n

Know all men by these presents that I Charles Donahoo, Sheriff<\/strong> of Blount County and State of Tennessee by virtue of my office and by virtue of two orders of sale _______on two judgements which was obtained by Nicholas Hern<\/strong> and Henderson & Lowery <\/strong>against Robert C. Doncarlos did on the twentieth day of September 1818 at the Court\u00a0 house in Maryville set up and offered for sale a certain tract of land lying and being in said county of Blount on the waters of Tennessee River containing acres [number not specified] which James Badgett offered and ___[best] the sum of $34 dollars which was the highest offer made for said land. Now know ye that I Charles Denahoo, Sheriff, as aforesaid in consequence of said land it being the highest and least bid made for said land do by virtue of my office and by virtue of the orders of sale aforesaid convey to the said James Badgett<\/strong> and his heirs from all the right total claims of the said Robert C Doncarlas<\/strong> his in and to the said land with the appurtenances hereby acknowledge the receipt of the aforesaid money paid.\u00a0 Given under my hand and seal Sept 12, 1818: Charles Donahoo (seal), Sheriff of Blount County.\u00a0 No witnesses. This indenture made the 13th<\/sup> day of March 1819 between Charles Denahoo, Sheriff and James Badgett<\/strong> witnessed whereas an order of sale issued from county court house of said county [not named] commanding me to expose [?] to sale a certain tract of land taken as the property of Robert Doncarlas<\/strong> lying on Tennessee River in said county of Blount which order of sale is based [?] on a judgement obtained by James I Green<\/strong> against Robert C Doncarlos<\/strong> on the 10th<\/sup> day of March 1819 at the Court house in Maryville after given due notice and set up and offer for sale the said tract of land as heretofore mentioned containing 90 acres when James Badgett<\/strong> offered and bid the sum of thirty dollars which was the highest bid made for said land. Know all men by these presents I James Badgett<\/strong> of the County of Knox State of Tennessee for and in consideration of the sum of $480 the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged\u00a0 have this day sold and delivered to William Henderson<\/strong> of the County of Blount and state aforesaid a certain negro boy Zak blacksmith<\/strong> age somewhere about twenty years to have and to hold the said boy Zak slave for life unto said William Henderson his heirs executors administrators and assigns and I the said James Badgett for myself heirs executors and administrators and assigns and all and every other person to have or to license with \u2026set my hand and seal this 12th<\/sup> day of November 1827.<\/p>\n

This indenture made the 2nd<\/sup> day of February 1827 between David Freeman<\/strong> of the county of Knox in the State of Tennessee of the one part and James Badgett<\/strong> of the county of Blount and State aforementioned of the other part witnessed that the said David Freeman for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred and thirty four dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted \u2026be sold delivered and confirmed unto James Badgett<\/strong> his heirs\u2026a certain parcel of land lying on Stark Creek \u202615 acres more or less\u2026I David Freeman<\/strong> have put my hand and seal this day and year above written in the presence of:<\/p>\n

Freeman<\/strong> to James Badgett<\/strong> for 15 acres of parcel was duly proven in open court by Elishe Dunn<\/strong> a witness thereto and this said Eliha<\/strong> being duly sworn said that he knew William Kidd<\/strong> being the name to said deed as a witness and that the said Kidd<\/strong> as he believes is not an inhabitant of the state it is therefore ordered by the court that the said deed be admitted to record & certified for registration .
