I'm in search of the wife of Samuel Houston Smith born in AL ~1839 His wife was a Rhea and that is all that is known, although it is presumed her first name was Mary. He was buried at Big Springs in 1920. Sam's parents were Jacob Smith born in TX, and Fan nie Reed born in AL. Rumor circulates that Jacob was a part of the Cherokee who went to TX

CATES: Looking for information in Melissa Cates found in 1860 Census in Maryville, Blount. Listed as seamstress with two sons. David age 6 and Robert age 2. In March 1865 she married Thomas Robbins and they moved to Nelson Co,KY. I think that the son Dav id is my Great Grfthr. I can find one other reference to a Melissa Cates in TN and that is in the 1850 census Bradley Co. She is 17 and married William Cates within the year. The age is a little off though. There seems to be only one other Cates family o n any records in the Maryville during that time (1850-1865) and that is the family of Ruben Cates. We think there must be some conection between these two families. Looking for death of father or divorce. Census says she owned property but I can't find p urchase or sale. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking for identity of the person(s) or org. who placed the following metal grave marker in the cemetery by Baker's Creek Presbyterian Church, Blount, TN: Thomas Montgomery, PA Militia, Revolutionary War, 1748-1830. This marker is unlike other nearby mar kers for Rev. War soldiers that were placed by SAR. Was it placed by the DAR? Thomas is my immigrant ancestor, so I would like to know who honored him and learn the basis for their info and the location of the marker.
