Train Depot and Caboose

A beautifully restored caboose sits beside Thompson's Station Depot. The caboose was donated by CSX Railroad to the people of the area in 1996.

The original floor plan of the depot states that it was built in 1866. It was a 61 x 22 foot frame building, vertical boards and battens with a wood foundation. There was an asbestos roof with a ceiling height of 11 feet 6 inches. A bay window was added to the agent's office in 1914. Below the gable was a sign that said "Thompson's".

Originally a wooden platform went all around the building with steps on either side; but at some point before 1948, it was removed.

Inside were the waiting room and freight room. The telegraph system was in the ticket agent's office.
