Train Depot and Caboose
The original floor plan of the depot states that it was built
in 1866. It was a 61 x 22 foot frame building, vertical boards
and battens with a wood foundation. There was an asbestos roof
with a ceiling height of 11 feet 6 inches. A bay window was added
to the agent's office in 1914. Below the gable was a sign that said "Thompson's".
Originally a wooden platform went all around the building with steps
on either side; but at some point before 1948, it was removed.
Inside were the waiting room and freight room. The telegraph system
was in the ticket agent's office.
A beautifully restored caboose sits beside
Thompson's Station Depot. The caboose was donated by
CSX Railroad to the people of the area in 1996.
