I am looking for the burial place of my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather John SECREST, a soldier in the Revolutionary War, who died in or near Peytonville, Williamson Co. Tn, November 30, 1847. I have heard that his grave was on a hillside, and that it had been marked by the local chapter of the D.A.R., but I have no idea of the exact location. Any help would be greatly appreciated. John Cox (b: 1787 VA) was in Williamson County abt. 1800-1825 & owned 40 acres along West Harpeth River. In 1812, John (my ggg-grandfather) joined Captain David Mason's Company of Rangers at Franklin & served one year in the War of 1812. He later married Sarah (Nelson?) & they migrated west in the 1820s to southwestern Arkansas. William Cox (John's uncle or cousin) & William's wife Elizabeth (prob. from Jefferson County TN) also joined this westward group, although they veered off to Cape Girardeau Co. MO, then later moved also to southwestern AR. John & Sarah had children: James b: 1831, Nelson, Thomas, Sarah J. & Abram. Also living nearby to these Coxes in Hempstead County AR in the 1830s-1850s were Nathan Cox, Abner Cox, Elizabeth Cox, and Anson Cox families. Six generations of John Cox's descendants have lived in Redland Township, Hempstead County (later became Nevada County) AR. Looking for additional info on this family, especially info prior to 1830.
