White County, Tennessee
County Coordinator

Hi!  I'm Sandy Keathley, TNGenWeb Coordinator for White County.  Before you ask, no, I don't live there, but I have been there, and it is a beautiful part of the country. The Keathley family (a First Family of Tennessee and a Pioneer Family of White County) was in White County before they started keeping records in 1806, and it appears they were somewhere in Tennessee as early as 1793, so I had already been digging in White County records when the TNGenWeb was founded in 1996.  Since no one else was ready to step forth to build and maintain the website, I volunteered, and was one of the charter members of the fledgling group.

In addition to maintaining the White County site, I am a member of the Board of Directors of TNGenNet, Inc., the non-profit parent sponsor of the TNGenWeb Project.

My original training is in music.  I hold the degree Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, NY, and play professionally in the Dallas, Texas, area.  In 1996 I started an Internet consulting and web development company (Apptech Services), and am now Senior Programmer and System Architect for Dent Zone Marketing Group in Dallas, TX.

My ancestors served in the 1st, 17th, and 28th Tennessee Infantry, and 8th and 16th Tennessee Cavalry, so it would not be surprising that I am a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  I am Past Commander of the Col. A.H. Belo Camp in Dallas, Texas, Webmaster for the Texas Division of SCV, and Chief Webmaster for the International organization.  I am also a Viet Nam veteran, and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in the Cambodia Campaign of 1970.

Below are links that reflect some of my interests:

Keathley

The Keathley surname can be traced back to a Viking settlement in 12th C. Yorkshire.  Some of them arrived in Maryland as early as the 1600s, and my group got to Tennessee in the 1790s.  My GGrandfather left White County in 1881 and settled in Texas (flatter farmland).

Mt. Gilead Methodist Church

This tiny church in White County set a record for the number of ministers produced from its flock, including several Keathleys and their in-laws.

1st Tenn Infantry

Although formed in Tennessee, this unit fought in the Eastern theater, including Gettysburg.  Find out why!

Civil War Units Criss-Cross

Trace Tennessee units by county or vice-versa.

Sons of Confederate Veterans

Texas Division.

Pecan Grove Cemetery

A beautiful, old cemetery in McKinney, Texas, and home to an eclectic group of historical figures: a Governor during Reconstruction, members of Quantrill's Raiders, gunslingers, and almost 200 Confederate veterans, many from other states.

The Heritage Brass Band

The Heritage Brass Band is a reenactment band, appearing variously as a Civil War band (Confederate and Federal), an Indian Wars unit (1870s), and a WWII Army swing band.  We use authentic uniforms and period instrumentation.

The Festival Brass

The Festival Brass of Dallas, a professional group specializing in church and wedding music.  Download digital audio clips.

Apptech Services

Web development and PHP/MySQL programming services for small business.
