Please use your browser's "Find" or "Search" feature to search for names on this page. An index has not yet been compiled.

Abstracted and submitted by Edgar D. Byler, III, 201 First Ave N., Collinwood, TN 38450.

These records were recorded in a record book originally kept in the County Court Clerk's office. Mr. Charles GALLAHER and I found the book in the attic of the 1905 courthouse in 1970 and brought it downstairs to the Clerk's office for future use. Following the 1972 courthouse fire, the book ended up in the basement storage room of the new courthouse. To facilitate use of the book, it was once again brought out of storage and this time taken to the Registrar's record room. The book was again taken to the basement storeroom in 1997 and in 1998 I brought it back upstairs to the Office of the County Historian where it is located today. To obtain copies of the records, please contact Mr. J. Charles Hardin, County Historian, P.O. Box 476, Waynesboro, TN 38485-0476.

The earliest entry in the book is dated 13 Aug 1856. There is generally one power of attorney recorded on each page, although there are also miscellaneous bonds recorded on later pages.

These records have been previously published. I abstracted these in 1974 and submitted them to the "River Counties" quarterly which was edited and published by the late Jill K. GARRETT of Columbia, TN. The first 80+ pages were also published in "Trace Traveler" the journal of the Natchez Trace Genealogical Society of Florence, Alabama. So many people have asked me about these records that I have decided to reprint those records previously published and to complete the abstract of all the records in the book. Only the names, locations and relationships are abstracted here.
