This cemetery is on Ross Creek, Wayne County, Tennessee about one mile from the Clifton Airport. It is a very old cemetery, overgrown, with all the markers and stones down. These family members were interred with love and care; many markers were sawed on three sides but left unengraved. Several were covered with large stones, and some with stone cairns.
The cemetery is on the W. G. HOWELL farm. Mr. HOWELL has the cemetery fenced off from the cattle and helped us dig and search for the markers. He also had his gates open so we could frive to the location.

In the 1850's and 1860's the church was moved from this location to Haynes Springs. On top of the hill above the old church location are seven or eight graves, marked with fieldstones with what appear to be some primitive markings. However, nothing could be deciphered. LOCATION: On the south side of Beech Creek, 3.4 mile up the creek from the confluence with Little Beech Creek.
A Methodist Church was located here in the 1830's. Thomas Montague deeded 2 acres to Campground Church in 1834. The first trustees for the church were Alexander Steele, Richard Tidwell, and Ben Steele. The church was moved from this site more than 100 years ago.

There are 75 to 100 field stone marked graves with no indentification. Some are pre-Civil War. There are also crypt graves with no identification. There is a grave about a quarter of a mile from the Campground Cemetery with L.J. on a field stone. Lewis Johnson entered land in the area. It is possible that this is his grave.

Location of the cemetery is as follows: From Clifton, TN take Linden Highway 128 to Morrison Creek Road Highway 228. Approximately 1 to 2 miles Praters Chapel Church is on the left side of the road, the cemetery is behind the Church. There is a road around the cemetery and through the middle. We divided the cemetery into 4 sections. Section 1 (new section) is outside the perimeter of the road to the north. Section 2 is from the back by the woods to the grave of Rosanna Warrington (oldest tombstone in the cemetery). Section 3 from Rosanna to the road west (Jeter Road). Section 4 is by Highway 228 behind the church and southeast of the picnic area. Comments are by writers.
