McCLANAHAN CEMETERY

The McClanahan Cemetery is located . . .

The McClanahan Cemetery is bad off.  It consists mostly of limestone pieces of creek bed that may have once had something scratched into them stuck edge first into the ground and with briars hiding most of them.  It can be found by following McClanahan Hollow Rd east from Oglesby Road one-half mile past the Woodmore-Fleeman Cemetery then turning into a gravel drive marked as Jim McClanahan Lane.  There is also a brown sign pointing down the drive and labeled - McClanahan Cemetery.  This is the old hollow owned by the McClanahan family as far back as records can be found.  It was bought from James Calvin McClanahan in the early 1970's by Dr. Sam Garrett.
The cemetery itself takes a little searching.  Jump the cable and cross the creek and follow the gravel ruts about 150 yards until you see the remains of a chimney on the left.  When you are even with the front of the chimney look directly across the road about 25 yards down slope for a grove of trees.  During my visit there was a deer stand in the largest tree and this tree marks the north-west corner of the graveyard. Continuing up the road another 15-20 yards there is a place that passes into a small field with a bran on the far side.  This field abuts against the cemetery on the southern edge and is the easiest access to the graves.

 APPRECIATION

We wish to take a moment to thank the Miltenbergers, Dolores and Gordon, miltenbergerfamily@sbcglobal.net, for their arduous task of seeking out and recording these cemeteries.  Were it not for people like them many of these people would be lost to researchers.  I found my ancestor, Hallery Malone, 13 Dec 1758 - 17 June 1854, 96 y, just now as I put this page together.  I had thought him buried in another cemetery where there was no stone.  Thus, I extend a double measure of appreciation to the Miltenbergers.

APPRECIATION

We wish to acknowledge John and Retta Waggoner for their contributions of photographs, directions, transcriptions and geographical notations for many of the cemeteries on these pages.

Cemeteries of Trousdale County Tennessee
Compiled by  Betty Scott and Nelwyn N. Cannon.  Bet-Nel Books, 1996. This book is a MUST for anyone researching in Trousdale County. It has the names within each cemetery, as well as biographical and historical data they have researched on many people.   It may list parents, military experience, or occupation. There is a short history of the Battle of Hartsville with names of those killed in the battle. Excellent resource!
