Taffy Apples

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup blue label Karo syrup (dark)

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup water

1 tbsp. cooking oil

1/4 tsp. salt

Cook sugar, syrup, salt and oil until syrup crackles in cold water. Remove from heat and add flavoring. Stick skewer in stem or apple; stick one at a time in syrup and place on an oiled pan to cool.
