October 15. (1900) My dearest Lida, Seldom have I felt so keenly the inadequacy of words as in this time of most tender sympathy with you. I could only turn to my unfailing Refuge and pray for you and yours day after day.-I follow you and your loved ones with constant sympathy in all your suspense and your distress over your precious sister's suffering and over the longing homes and all the sacrifices involved-Well do I know there are passages in every life too dark and sorrowful for any upholding but that of the "Everlasting Arms," infinite in tenderness as in strength and I long to have you know the true comfort of that upholding. Only so far had I written when Ellie's telephoning brought us word of your return-I can only send my comfort and thanksgiving that you are brought back safe and my earnest hope that you will soon regain your sadly tested strength With dear love to you and Sperry and Logan & Elise your Mother.
