Please use your browser's "back" button to return to the previous page. ******************************************************************************* Order of Extradition in the case of the State of Tennessee vs. Robert Ransom. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- State of Tennessee EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT To His Excellency the Governor of the State of North Carolina Sir: It has been made known to me that a certain Robert Ransom, of our County of Hawkins, stands charged with having, in the month of ___________, 187__, committed the crime of Treason against the State of Tennessee as will more fully appear from an authenticated copy of a presentment by the Grand Jury of Hawkins Co., State of Tenn. herewith transmitted: And whereas, it has been made known to me that the said Robert Ransom has fled from justice, and is now running at large in the State of North Carolina. Now, Therefore, I, William G. Brownlow, Governor of the State of Tennessee, in pursuance of the Act of Congress, entitled "An Act respecting Fugitives from Justice," do hereby demand that your Excellency will please cause the said Robert Ransom to be arrested, if to be found within the limits of the State over which you preside, and have him safely delivered to __________________, who is appointed Agent on the part of this State to receive the said fugitive from the civil authorities of the State of North Carolina, to the end that he may be brought to the State of Tennessee and dealt with according to law.
