McKinney From: Lida McKinney -------------------------- Home, May 4th 1866 My own dear papa: I wrote to you the last day of April I believe, Sis wrote to you yesterday but I know that if you are like us you can not receive too many letters from Home. I know nothing of interest to tell you. We are all pretty well. Sis is I think is as well as usual or she would be any how you know as Mr Logan is comeing up tonight. She said today that she would rather see you, but I think she was telling a sly bit of a curtis thin I am not going to finish my letter tonight, so that I can tell you how much style and mush, he will take on tonight. Then I wont to see him look miserable, when she putting on a very tragic air tells him, Oh! How sick she has been; I know I shall laugh. I dont think she liked a bit your talking about her suger lump (as old Ann called George)-being last if not least, among others that were in Nashville. She got her new hat yesterday, and such a thing! it looks just like a boys hat, with a peice of ribbon about an inch thick (green at that) tied around it. I rode home in it, and it got the freckles on my face so hot, that they all run together, and I am afraid they will never separate again. Uncle John and the girls got home the 2nd. They were very glad to get home. Cousin Elija will start about Tuesday. My mercy! what a moustache, he has shaved off his whiskers and left a moustache that Dr Brondows cannot equal. I told Sis that I wanted him to shave it off, before I eat with him again. Uncle Charley Lynn come down this evening. I think he is evidently on the marry as cousin Tom Cloud would say. Cousin Pink has been very dangerously sick her life was at one time despaired of-but she is now better. Well! Aunt Fannie is gone our Cousin Charles sent up for her-and Miss Lida McKinney has been Biddie for several days. I dont like it much, but I think I should soon become a very expert cook in the "corn bread and greens line." Mother received a very interesting letter from Mrs Lawyer, _Miss Sallie H. a few days ago, she also sent you a box of suspenders, nor do I think they come before they were needed. You said that you had put on only one clean shirt I think the one you pulled off must have been very nasty indeed. I hope that ere this you have found a room to suit you. Mr Logan to worry Mother this evening told her, that you Didn't think you would be home before the 20th of this month. It is reported that Mary Riley and Johnnie Wolffe are to be married the 8th or 9th. Mrs. Riley is very much opposed to it I hear. Mother got her carpet home this morning. I think it is really beautiful it is so bright it hurts my eyes to look at it. I will now talk about farm matters everything is moveing along very well as far as I can hear. Fitz is plowing his corn over, it looks very well (so do the woods). Riley is putting in the upper field pretty fast, has twelve hands in it it work. I dont know how Stewart is getting along. Old long legs has got his field in at last. all others are working away I think. Mr. Bear and Jake are getting in their corn, or Jake and Jesse, rather. Beal has so much to do here at the house, he cannot work out much. Louis is still laying over there at Charles, getting no better. They have nothing at all to eat. Colia is very anxious to get home again. Aorn(?) is working over here nearly all the time. We will have sacramental meeting here in three weeks. both reb and union. I am sorry they come together. Grandma went home day before yesterday she got very anxious to get home before she started. Dr Hampton is not in Town now. I am very anxious to have my teeth attended to. They have become very sore, from want of attention. Mrs. Clay and the Captain are at Mr Netherlands at present. I dont know what they are going to do, he has another brother with him. Hale is still in there house. Sister received her dress Wednesday and has it nearly finished. You must write soon to us we are always glad to hear from you. Charley Lacky is done plastering but has not white washed yet. Papa cousin William Kenner, told me yesterday that he had been looking for a letter from you for two weeks, about some paint or something, and for you to write and tell him about it. I will now go in and "pester" them a while. All send their love to you. Yours Affec Daughter Lida.
