McKinney From: Lida McKinney -------------------------- Home April 30th 1866 My own dear papa: Mother wrote to you a few days ago telling you that Sis was sick and that some of us would write in a few day's, so that you wouldn't be uneasy about her, she wet up nearly all day today for the first time, but she is far from well now, every thing she eats makes her so sick, Grandma has been out a few days with her Grandpa come out today after her but it commenced to rain and so they will stay all night with us. it has been raining all day nearly I am afraid tomorrow the 1st day of May will be very disagreeable, if it is the bridal party will be disappointed as they have been thinking of a very gay time. I think their programe was to be married in the morning go to a large picnic at Moorsburg the same day to a ball at M-g that night then come up to Rices next day, Sister was not invilid at all, but she was glad of it she did not want to be "bored" so long, then she thought that it released her from all obligations to return the compliment. Mary Amis and Newt Beal are to be married the 15th of May, we expect an invitation there. I was invited to attend a picnic got up in Town. Mother didn't want me to go much though, and I didn't care much about it, tomorrow is Kate Carmichaels birthday I received a note from her this evening she wants me to come down and I think I will go. Mr. Bear is going to commence putting in corn in the morning if it is not too wet. Mr. Grahams things have all come, they seem to be working away at a great rate. I think Mr. Bear will marry before three weeks be goes up to see Sallie nearly ever night. I got a letter from cousin John Lynn yesterday, he sent me his photograph it is very good We had a letter from cousin Pink yesterday, she had been very sick indeed. Uncle John Netherland and the girls are to be home Wednesday. I had a letter from Mollie yesterday they are perfectly happy at the thought of coming home. Well, papa I have one piece of news for you, they have got old Clark McClain Revis West and Lay Smith in jail for breaking open the depot I think they will send them out to see you before long. They also had Louis Wade and Prince(?) Insued(?) then out Hiram is gone, Bill and Abe West are connected in some way, it isn't known yet who is in it. Mother says you must write to tell her when you will come home, and she will meet you at the river or at the Junction of you would rather. Charley is so bad we can hardly live with him, throws rocks, fights-and does every thing else. You must write soon and come home soon All send their love Yours Affectionately D. Lida
