WILLIAMS,RICKS,KEATON

I am in search for any information on a Fannie WILLIAMS 1836-1920. According family traditions Fannie Williams was a least half Cherokee, though her descendants claim full blood, and she looks it from her portrait. However according to all records she was African American. According to family Fannie was Cherokee born in VA and brought to Montgomery County, TN on the Trail of Tears as a slave. Fannie remembers having one brother and nothing of her parents. She married a man named Wesley WILLIAMS 1838-1918 and later moved to Robertson County, TN to the Wessyngton Plantation. There are several mysteries surrounding this woman: 1 On all records she is listed as being black but she has definite Indian features and one would never suspect her as being white or black but full Cherokee, 2 The 1910 census for Robertson County, Tn lists her birthplace as being VA and both her parents being born in Africa. 3 Three of her children's death certificates list Fannie with a different surname (RICKS,KEATON, and GARRI

ARMSTRONG

Looking for any information on Gaines ARMSTRONG, ex slave and Civil War Vet, born around 1846 in Knox Co to owner Aaron ARMSTRONG. I can't find Gaines ARMSTRONG or children in 1880 census. Also am interested in any tax information on Aaron ARMSTRONG around 1850-1860. In 1850 and 1860 census two Aaron (or Aron) Armstrongs are listed, but I'm sure that the older Aaron (or Aron as the they spelled it, age 72 in 1860) was owner of my great-grandfather Gaines Armstrong. Hoping tax records will give clue as to exact location and size of estate, # of slaves, etc., Also looking for local researchers who might assist in any way. "It is my will that the boy Sam that I got by Nancy J. Wilson, my first wife, be free at my death. I do this for reasons that I think just and right, best known to my self."

HAWKINS may have been the name of Nancy Wilson's father. It appears that Jordan LANGFORD was born in NC, spent most of his life in TN, and then moved to Arkansas. Hope this might help someone with a search.
