Looking for information on
Col. William Calhoun, my gggGrandfather and his family who lived in Tipton
County near the Hatchie River at a place called Hurricane Hill around 1825.
William’s brothers were John and George B., and I believe their father was
Adam Calhoun.
William was married to Elizabeth Hungerford Smith, daughter of James
Norman Smith, who had a store in that area selling dry goods and groceries.
The store was J.N. Smith & Co. in partnership with Armstead Morehead and
Wm. Morehead.
James Norman Smith moved to Texas around 1840 as well as William Calhoun
& family. They settled in DeWitt County, the boundaries of which were
surveyed by James Norman Smith.
Any information on the Calhoun family in Tipton County or their prior
history would be greatly appreciated.

I am the grandson son of William Henry TRAVIS (b. 17 Oct 1897 I believe
to be Tipton Co. and d. 11 Feb 1976 in Tipton Co.). He was married to
Sarah Agness Glass (b. 23 Feb 1899 and d. 17 Jan. 1937).
I have been told that William H. is the son of a William W. TRAVIS and a
Mattie KENDRICK/KINDRICK. Sarah A. is the daughter of a Lonzon GLASS and
that is all I know.
I Have also been told that William W. is the son of George Washington
TRAVIS and a Phebe Elender BANKS.
I any one can help me, please do so. Family records are sketchy and so

MCFARLAND: Searching for information on this family. In 1850 Tipton Co
census, Clarinda (mother), age 58, Fletcher (Rueben Fletcher) age 20, and
Thomas D. McFarland, age 22, were living in the household of JOHN KNOX, and
wife, JENNETTA, age 29, who was a sister to the above MCFARLANDS.
Other probable siblings were MARY A. MCFARLAND, who married CHARLES W.
FALLON
in 1848 in Tipton, and REBECCA MCFARLAND, who married JAMES D. WESSON in
1844
in Tipton Co.
By 1860, REUBEN FLETCHER MCFARLAND and THOMAS D. MCFARLAND, were in Pulaski
Co AR. Living with REUBEN at that time was a CALVIN MCFARLAND, born abt
1773
NC, who is a good candidate to be the FATHER. Cannot find CALVIN MCFARLAND
listed anywhere in the 1850 census.
RUEBEN FLETCHER MCFARLAND married HELEN GEHAN in 1850 in Tipton Co, and his
brother, THOMAS D. MCFARLAND married MARY J. BASS in 1850 in Tipton. MARY
BASS was the daughter of JAMES and DELILA BASS of Tipton Co.
RUEBEN MCFARLAND stayed in Arkansas, but THOMAS D. MCFARLAND was back in
Tipton Co in the 1870 census. He died there in 1876, and is buried in
Bethuel Cemetery.
Would like any information on these families.

great grandfather was JIM BYRD, brother of BOB and CHARLIE, but I don't
have any names prior to that. Bob fought in the Civil War in the battle
of Shiloh, Tennessee. One of my relatives stated that our ancestors

STEWART, STEVONS, POLLARD, NEAL, WRIGHT. Desperately need info on family
of William STEWART who married Margaret Judith Caroline STEVONS. Her
father was supposed to have come here with Lafayette from France to fight
the British. Their two places of residence were Davidson Co. & Tipton
Co. William died before Civil War & Margaret died shortly after.

I am current researching family line of PAINE. A 2 great grandmother of
mine was Mary Josephine PAINE Moore. b. 30 Nov. 1842 in Tipton Co., TN
her father was Constantine PAINE b.abt.1806. I know no further
information on him except his wife was Anne Marie McCAIN b. 1808. I have
just found a James PAINE listed as being born June 10, 1845 in HAYWOOD
COUNTY, TN. This came from Goodspeed's Biographies 1887, p. 907. I
wonder if anyone has information to link these people.

Looking for information on a Jacob Sullivan probably buried in Old
Randolph Cemetary. Jacob was born in MD about 1778. I am one
of his descendants and am trying to determine to whom he was
married. He lived briefly in Guilford Co., NC then moved to the
Wilson Co., TN area about 1810. Then in 1832 Jacob moved to
Tipton Co. Would also love to know who his father was. I
suspect it is somebody named Fletcher but need to nail this

I am seeking information on DELLA SMITH, who died in zip code 38004
(Crosstown or Atoka) in
March 1974. She was probably in a nursing home as she was 99 years old (b.
29 June 1874). I am
trying to determine if this was my great grandmother. Would there have been
a story in a local
newspaper about someone who was 99 years old? If anyone locally could look
up an obituary orhas any information, it would be greatly appreciated! I

Searching for information on my great great
grandfather, Michael
GILLEN,(Gilen, Gillan, etc.) dob: Jan. 29, 1807 in TN.
He is listed in the 1830 and 1832 Tipton Co.,TN Census with a wife and
three
children.
He received a league of land that was obtained through Green DeWitt's
empresario contract with the Mexican authorities of the State of Coahuila
and Texas. The title is dated June 22, 1831. He states that he is married
and has six children.
In 1840 he is in Calcasieu Parish, LA. with a new family. He had married
Martha Tarkington on March 4, 1837 in LA.
My question is what happened to his first family?
What was the name of his first wife?
Is anyone doing research on this family? Would appreciate any
assistance.

I am looking for any help with the family of Romaine SIMONTON and wife
Mary HUFFMAN. The only info I have is that their daughter, Elnora Young
SIMONTON (1874 - 1927) apparantly lived her whole life in Tipton Co. She
married in 1893 to Manuel MOOSE (1866 - 1933), the son of George MOOSE
and Mary KEENER. Does anyone know anything about this family?

Appreciate help with the William B,BOYD and Frances Ann CARRINGTON family
that left Marshall Co.Miss. and settled around Covington,Tn. They married
1865 in Marshall Co.Miss. their children were Doris, living about 977 in
Covington and a school teacher. Walter married a PIERCE. Mary Eliza
married first a YOUNG and second a STRONG,John Married Elizabeth
CRENSHAW, Charlie Morgan married an Ella LEE, William Robert married a
Sallie PACE, Pearl married a Grier STRONG and Hugh married a BESSIE
SIMONTON. I think some of the descendants of these families still live in
or around Covington,Tn. or at least in Tipton Co.Tn. Would like to be in
touch with some of them and I have lots of CARRINGTON info. I can share.
If anyone can help in anyway that I might reach some of these
descendants, will appreciate. Maybe the Covington School can help me with
the yrs. Doris taught there and if she ever married ?

My fraternal grandmother, Mary Josephine (Josie) Hunt Hill, was born to
Annie Maria (Moriah) Moore and Thomas Oliver Hill, Grand Junction, TN. I
am interested to know parentage of either or both of her parents. I have
been to family site in Grand Junction but no more information.
For some reason my grandparents. Josie Hunt and Allen Baxter Hill are not
listed in the 1910 census in Memphis. They married a. 1906 and he diedin
a. 1915. He was the son of Alphonso Bruce Hill,long-time Secretary of
the Board of Education in Memphis, TN, b. in Tipton Co. TN. Siblings of
Allen Baxter Hill include Vance and Helen. Aleen Baxter Hill died of
tuberculosis and was once patient at St. Luke's Tent Hospital out from
Phoenix (a.1910 and 1911). Am trying to establish contact to find old
records. Arizona was not yet a state.

I am interested in learning any information on my grand
parents William Thomas Strain born 26 January l858, and wife
Mary C. Florence Banks, born l4 August l862.
They had 12 children, and lived in Tipton County--perhaps
Brighton.
They married 04 March l880 and moved to Oklahoma City, OK
in l907.
Nine children came to Oklahoma City: Ermine, Corinne, Joseph
Irene, Inez (twins), Lillie, Banks, Mabel, and Edna.
