INJURIES FATAL TO WORLD WAR VETERAN--Run over by a truck which he cranked while it was in gear Thursday afternoon, D.A.MAY,35-year-old World War Veteran,of Brighton,died at St.Joseph’s Hospital,Memphis,Friday afternoon.The accident occurred at Holmes and Sumner,Memphis.Mr.MAY,who was a truck driver and mechanic for the state highway department had just had the truck worked on at a garage before leaving to take a load of gravel out on the Bristol highway.A native of Dyersburg,he moved to Brighton about 3 years ago.Surviving is his widow,Mrs.Edith Margaret MAY,and an 18-months-old daughter,Margaret; three sisters,Mrs.Susie TREADWELL and Mrs.Jennie MORGAN,both of Dyersburg,and Mrs.Frances PIERCE of San Diego,CA;three brothers,George MAY of Memphis, Jesse MAY of Curve, and Charles MAY,of Dyersburg.Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery,Memphis.

HOLD-UP MEN CAUGHT BY LOCAL OFFICERS--The practice of local officers in checking up on all foreign cars driven by unknown drivers again bore fruit the past week.Two armty deserters and another man held up the Braden Service Station in Mason.The car had been stolen in Columbus,GA and was supposed to be in possession of two Army deserters, Herbert ADAIR of New Albany,Miss.,and WilliamKELLY.Also involved was Ermon PERRY,of the Randolph vicinity and Anson EASLEY,of the Hopewell vicinity.They were all caught at a crap game in Fayette Co. Ermon PERRY was released. (long story about the chase)

NEW HEAD AT STATION--R.E.MARSHELL,for eight years manager of the Standard Oil Company’s plant at Mason,has succeeded Lanier OVERALL as manager of the company’s service station at West Liberty & Jeff Davis Highway.

CRAIG’S CHAPEL NOTES--The children of Mr.& Mrs.Dewey HANKS have the whopping cough. --Mrs.W.H.HANKS was guest of her daughter,Mrs.C.L.BELK,of Atoka Sunday.

ANDERSON-OAKES--Mr.& Mrs.Albert Sidney ANDERSON,of San Antonio,Texas announce the engagement of their daughter,Mary Katherine,to Nathan Waller OAKES,of New York,son of Mr.& Mrs.Herbert King OAKES,of Cleveland,Ohio,the marriage to take place in July.Mrs.ANDERSON,formerly Miss Jennie SIMPSON,of this city is pleasantly remembered in Covington.

DEATH--Allison Arnold VALENTINE,of Millard,AR died at his home Monday,May 2nd at the age of 72 years,3 months,16 days.Services at the residence,burial in Mountain Grove Church Cemetery.Mr.VALENTINE was born in Jones County,MS January 16,1860.He was married to Miss Ada STRONG,of Tipton County,December 25,1888,moving to Logan Co.AR in 1889.To this union,eight children were born;seven,with his widow survive him.The sons are Ross VALENTINE,of Subiaca; Emery VALENTINE of Havana,AR; Eustace VALENTINE of Driggs,AR; Cecil VALENTINE of Paris,AR; and Allen VALENTINE,who lived with his father.His two daughters are:Misses Lelia & Anna VALENTINE,who also live at the homeplace.A sister,Mrs.Vernie WHITE,of Little Field,Texas and a brother,Lee VALENTINE of Soso,MS survive.

BRIGHTON NOTES--Mrs.J.F.RICHARDSON,formerly of Rosemark,is now making her home with Mr.& Mrs.O.L.TILLMAN,of Brighton.--BORN recently to Mr.& Mrs.Neverett HUFFMAN,a son.--Mrs.Bell BOSWELL & children of Liberty,spent the week-end with her mother,Mrs.Fannie HUFFMAN.--Mrs.W.R.HUFFMAN is spending the week with her husband at Henderson.Mr.HUFFMAN is engaged in building roads.--Mr.A.Y.DICKEY,son of Mr.& Mrs.W.L.DICKEY,of Brighton and Miss Marguerite HADLEY,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Nath HADLEY,of Idaville were married last Saturday at Marion,AR.They will make their home with the bride’s parents,with whom Mr.DICKEY has farming interests.--Mrs.M.J.FARMER and daughter spent Tuesday with her daughter,Mrs.A.L.TANNER,whose three daughters are confined with whooping cough.--Mrs.Paul JOHNSON & aunt,Mrs.Anne SANDLIN,of Friar’s Point,MS attended the funeral of little Ruth Christine TANNER last week.--The Death angel visited the home of Mr.& Mrs.A.N.TANNER on Wednesday of last week and took their little daughter,Ruth Christine,aged two years,eight months.Little Ruth had been in delicate health since birth and while playing school with other children about three weeks ago,experienced a fall down the door steps which injured her right arm and left her whole right side in a semi-paralytic condition,from which she never recovered.The funeral was held at the family residence,burial in the Indian Creek burying ground.

GRACEY-McCLANAHAN--A surprise wedding closely following the announcement occurred here last night,when Miss Katherine McCLANAHAN,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.W.E.McCLANAHAN,of Bartlett,became the bride of Mr.George GRACEY,son of Mrs.J.Sidney STITT,of this city.

LOST MAN FOUND IN CAPE GIRARDEAU--I.M.STEELE,county court clerk of Lauderdale County,was located in Cape Girardeau,MO Wednesday afternoon,being missing since Monday.A wire from him stated that he had taken the wrong bus fron Memphis by mistake and that he had become ill in that city.Aid of police had been sought when Mr.STEELE failed to return to Ripley Monday night.He had been in Memphis all day Monday,calling upon Judge George W.YOUNG,also of Ripley,who had recently undergone an operation in a Memphis hospital.The official is married and has three children.

LOCALS--BORN Sunday,May 8th,to Mr.& Mrs.E.P.PETREE,of this city,a son.--BORN to Mr.& Mrs.Herbert JORDAN,of the Rough Edge vicinity,Monday,May 2nd,adaughter.--Pernell ROBERTSON,of this city,was fined $5 Monday for alleged unwarranted abuse and an attack upon R.V.DOWNING.--The United Daughters of the Confederacy will hold their next meeting in the residence of Mrs.C.B.McCLELLAND on South Main Street.--Mr.& Mrs.Simpson DANIELS,recently of Dyersburg,are now residents of Covington,being at home with Mr.& Mrs.E.L.DANIELS,of this city.The Messrs.DANIELS are employed by the Walker Chevrolet Company.

PERSONALS--Mr.W.H.MALEY,of Boyd,TX who was born and reared in this county,but who has been away for 25 years,is visiting relatives here this week.He is a cousin of R.S.MALEY.--Mrs.Ed GOULDER is spending this week with her sister,Mrs.J.R.NOTGRASS,of St.Louis.--Mr.& Mrs.Carl RICE and son,of Memphis,were guests of his mother,Mrs.Nettie RICE,of this vicinity Sunday.--Mrs.Y.B.TURNER,Jr.,of Caruthersville,MO is attending the bedside of Mr.TURNER’s mother,Mrs.Y.B.TURNER,Sr.,of this city.--Mr.Peter FYFE,of Mulberry,TN arrived Friday night for a visit with his parents,Mr.& Mrs.Will FYFE,of this city.--Mrs.Dan FYFE,of Corinth,MS has recently been a guest of her mother,Mrs.Minnie BAXTER,of this city.

YOUNG CHILD DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS--James Othell,infant son of Mr.& Mrs.Clarence ROWLAND,of near Sharon,died May 1st after a brief illness.Born September 10,1930,he was 1 year, 8 months.Interment in Munford Cemetery.He also leaves a sister,Mary Helen and a brother,Carlton and his grandparents.

ILL FOR TWO YEARS--Mrs.Annie McDANIEL,wife of Ralph McDANIEL,of Salem,died Thursday,May 5th,following an illness of two years.Funeral services were conducted by Rev.KERR at the Salem A.R.P.Church,of which she had long been a member.The proof of her Christianity was illustrated in the fortitude with which she bore her long illness Besides her husband,she is survived by five sons;Ralph, Erskine, Denver, David Pressley, Robert,Agnew and Calvin Young;two sisters,Mrs.C.T.BRYSON of Pottsville,AR, Mrs.Thede STRONG and one brother,D.P.YOUNG of this county; an aunt,Miss Belle PRESSLEY,who live in the home during the long illness of Mrs.McDANIEL.

DETROIT NOTES--Miss Pauline ROGERS,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.J.H.ROGERS,who entered the Baptist hospital,Memphis last Thursday for an appendix operation.She will probably return to her home the latter part of this week. --J.C.VAUGHN,Jr.,of Dresden,and sister,Mrs.Jesse WILSON,of Covington,were guests of their parents,Mr.& Mrs.J.C.VAUGHN,of this vicinity last Friday.

REV.RAYNOR HONORED ON 92ND BIRTHDAY--Sunday May 8th,was the occasion of a surprise birthday dinner and a large gathering to honor Rev.L.RAYNOR of this city.(Lists all of the callers at the residence of his daughter,Mrs.W.M.ROBERTSON,on Elm Street,with whom he lived.)

HONOR MRS.MOORE--A surprise birthday dinner was given Mrs.Ella MOORE Sunday May 8th at the residence of Mr.& Mrs.R.F.HAZELRIG,of near Bride.85 guests,Mrs.MOORE’s children,grandchildren,great-grandchildren,neices and nephews and friends comprised the log guest list.(long article)

SOMERVILL-TERRY--Mr.& Mrs.William Alexander SOMERVILL,of Mason,announce the marriage of their daughter,Ellen Maude to Mr.Benton TERRY,of Cookeville.The wedding will be at the Old Trinity Chapel near Mason,Wednesday,June1st.

ARRIVE FROM HAVANA--Mr.& Mrs.P.K.MOFFATT and baby arrived this week in Memphis for a vacation of a month.They are expected in Brighton during this week.Mr.MOFFATT is an electrical engineer and has been stationed in Havana,Cuba for some time by one of the large power companies.He is a son of the late H.C.MOFFATT and was born in Covington.He was taken by an aunt in Mississippi however,at a very tender age,upon the death of his mother,being reared in that state.

RETURNS ILLEGAL CHARGED BY WARD--Inan interview this week,Guy T.WARD,defeated canidate for tax assessor of Tipton County in the Democratic primary,held Saturday,May 7th,stated that pressure of his friends caused his decision to contest the legality of the votes cast in at least two of the precinets.he named Corona (Island 37) and Gainsville as precienets in which negroes were voted contrary to the instructions in the call of the Democratic Executive Committe. ( This is a lenghtly article and will complete for anyone who is interested in such.There is also a rebuttal.)

IS AWARDED TRIP---Marion DELASHMIT,Future Farmer of the Brighton High School,has been awarded a trip to the Caney Fork Camp for his outstanding work in the productive end of his agricultural course.He is the son of Mr.& Mrs.Will DELASHMIT,of Holly Grove.

COCO COLA GARDENS GET RARE SPECIMEN--L.O.BALTZER.whose sunken and rock gardens at his plant on East Pleasant Avenue,have aroused enthusiastic comments in this and neighboring counties,has added a rare specimen of cactus to his park which are certain to draw a throne of interested people. ( anyone remember school field trips to this Coco Cola Plant in the 1940s?)

GOOD SLEUTHING GETS FIRE-BUG AND THIEF--Through casually looking out of a rear window last Friday morning,Mrs.C.P.NOELL averted what might have been a disastrous fire at her South Maple Street residence.Her attention was held as she looked out into the rear yard,by the figure of a small negro girl who was scaling the fence. She then noticed smoke issuing from the servants house which formed the second floor to the garage.Investigation of the fire by Fire Chief WALL and Marshal N.B.PORTIS showed the room had been ranshacked and kindling satuated with oil had been piled behind the bed and set afire.Acting on a tip,the officers began a search for Margarey BERNARD,15-year-old negro living near Covington.She was found with some of the stolen clothes.Because of her age,she was tried before County Judge C.B.McCLELLAND and sent to reform school.

POPULAR SALESMAN DIES IN HOSPITAL--W.A. ( Jack ) DANIELS,prominent salesman and active churchman,died suddenly in the Baptist Hospital,Wednesday.His illness was very brief.Funeral services are being held in the First Baptist Church,burial in Munford Cemetery with Masonic honors.Mr.DANIELS was well known in this county and adjacent counties,he represented the J.T.FARGASON Grocery Company,and prior to that,connection was for some tiome a salesman for the ols Currie-McGraw Company of Memphis.(paragraph of good words about him)He is survived by his widow; two sons,W.A.,Jr.,& John,both of this city; two daughters,Mrs.Thomas MOOSE of this city and Mrs.Earl ANDERSON,of Birmingham,AL; his father,J.W.DANIELS of Woodville,Lauderdale County; five brothers,E.L.DANIELS of Covington.and John,Vernon, Wiley and Alec,all of Ripley; one sister,Mrs.W.T.RICE,of Ripley; and two half-sisters,Miss Bertha DANIELS of Woodville,and Mrs Marshall CROWDER,of near Ripley.

ROAD MEN TO JACKSON--Messrs.J.W.DARBY. E.F.ELAM, and Hon.A.M.MOOSE were in Jackson Friday in the interest of Tipton County Roads.

McQUISTON-HARRELL--Mr.& Mrs.C.E.HARRELL,of Rosemark,announce the marriage of their daughter,Vergla,to Mr.Edwin McQUISTON,of Atoka.The wedding took place at the home of Rev NELSON at Rosemark in the presence of a number of friends and relatives.The bride,gowned in beige and blue,was attended by her cousin,Miss Vivian KELLY.Mr.Jones Warren McQUISTON,cousin of the groom,attended him.The wedding music was offered by Mrs.Paul BARRETT,Mr.Reed MOORE and Alfred TAYLOR.

PILLJERK NOTES--Mr.& Mrs.Raymond HOPKINS and daughter,Margie,were the week-end guests of Mr.& Mrs.J.E.SIMPSON.--Mr.& Mrs.C.W.OVERTON and children and Mr.& Mrs.Joseph OVERTON spent Sunday with Mr.& Mrs.FULLER of Ripley.--Mrs.Ivey FIKE and daughter.Louise,were guests of the former’s sister,Mrs.Raymond HOPKINS,of Mt.Carmel. --Miss Ann OVERTON is spending this week in Memphis,the guest of her aunt,Mrs.O.B.SANDERLIN. --Mrs.George IVY and Mrs.Mattie BELL spent the weekend with Mrs.IVY’s parents,Mr.& Mrs.Bob GATLIN,of Idaville.

MT.CARMEL NOTES--Mr.& Mrs.Arthur NOLEN and son,Ames;J.D.& Jeff FAULK and Miss Mattie GLOVER were guests of Mr.G.FAULK of Germantown Friday.--Mr.& Mrs.Thurman BENNETT and children of Water Valley,were guests of Mrs.BENNETT’s mother,Mrs.Haywood ARCHER sunday. --Jeff FAULK was the week-end guest of his mother,Mrs.Clarence FAULK of Mason. --Mr.Frederick TERRY,of Charleston,has recently been a guest of his neice,Mrs.Arthur NOLEN.

TIPTON NOTES--The friends of Mrs.J.B.WITHERINGTON are sorry to learn of her being in the hospital. --Mrs.Margie BILLINGS is spending several days in Memphis with her daughter,Mrs.Ruth POSEY.

SURPRISE BIRTHDAY DINNER--Mrs.Virgil PINNER entertained her husband with a surprise birthday dinner last Sunday,the occasion being his 43rd birthday.Mr.PINNER is day engineer of the city power plant and he was called home at noon to find a number of friends present and a splendid dinner awaiting him.

THE SICK THIS WEEK--Mrs.A.M.MOONEYHAM,of the Rialto vicinity,and Mrs.George ADAMS of the Gift vicinity,were both admitted to the Baptist hospital,Memphis,for operations. --L.L.ATKINSON,of Brighton,was admitted to the Methodist Hospital Tuesday.Condition is not known. --Mrs.Anna May BROWN,of Dyersburg,the former Miss Anna May McCAIN,of Idaville and wife of Dr,George B.BROWN of Dyersburg,had the misfortune to fall at her home this week,breaking her hip.She is now confined in the Dr.Henry G.HILL Clinic,Memphis. --Mrs.J.A.CLENDINING,of Memphis,the former Miss Jimmy PETTY of this city and well known to people of her age,suffered a fall at her home Tuesday of this week,breaking her left arm.

LOCALS--Mr.Albert DICKSON,of Memphis,who was born and reared in Covington,was the guests of relatives here this week.He has just graduated from a Memphis High School at the young age of 16 years. --Mr.Tom POLLARD has been employed by the Orange Crush Bottling Company.

DETROIT NOTES--BORN to Mr.& Mrs.Claud ANDERSON Saturday,May 14th,a daughter. --Mr.Robert MERRITT,who makes his home with Mr.& Mrs.L.E.HUFFMAN attended the funeral of his kinsman,Mr.John YOUNT,which occurred last Sunday at the late’s Mr.YOUNT’s residence near Covington.

PROMINENT FARMER BURIED--John W.YOUNT,prominent farmer of near Covington,died at the Baptist Hospital Saturday,May 14th.Funeral services were held at his residence,interment in Munford Cemetery.Besides his widow,he is survived by two children of a former marriage; Walter YOUNT,of this city and Mrs Josie MADDOX of Memphis.A brother also survives.

PERSONAL--Mrs.Clyde MOSIER,of Memphis,is the guest of her aunt,Mrs.Ben PORTIS.--Mr.& Mrs.C.C.PACE are spending this week with the family of their son,J.P.PACE,of Memphis. --Mrs.J.B.HEFLIN has been a guest of her parents,Mr.& Mrs.J.B.WOODFIN,of Union City.

INTERRED AT SALEM--Mrs.Bessie E.WRIGHT,wife of W.C.WRIGHT,of Sharon,died Saturday May 14th.Services at Salem A.R.P.Church,burial in church cemetery.Mrs.WRIGHT was born October 8,1874;the eldest daughter of Wm.C.& Mary McDANIEL BAIRD.She spent her entire life in the old Mulberry Grove vicinity,where she was born.Besides her husband,she is survived by two daughters,Mrs.C.D.HENDREN,of Memphis and  Mrs.L.W.WILLIAMS,of this vicinty.A son,Malcolm,lives at the homeplace.Two brothers and two sisters also survive; Dr.Lowry BAIRD & W.BOYCE BAIRD,of Marked Tree AR; Mrs.Carrie RICHARDSON and Mrs.Ada SIMPSON,both of this county.

WIDOW OF VETERAN BURIED MONDAY--Mrs.Laura PORTIS TURNER,widow of Y.B.TORNER,Confederate veteran,of this city,died early Sunday morning after an invalidism of several months.Her last illness was spent at the  residence of a daughter,Mrs.Troy McCALL,of this city,in whose home she passed away.Services in the First Baptist Church,this city,interment in Munford Cemetery.Mrs.Turner,who was 58 years old,was a daughter of the late J.F.PORTIS.She is survived by three children; Mrs.Troy McCALL,of this city, Y.B.TURNER,Jr.,of Caruthersville,MO, and Mrs.William KELLY,of Chattanooga.Two brothers;N.B.PORTIS,city marshal,and M.N.PORTIS,of Wichita,Kansas and two sisters,Mrs.T.J.FAUGHT,of this vicinity,and Mrs,J.E.WHITECROFT,of Pasadena,CA also survive.

GUEST OF COMRADE--Max B.JONES,of Sun City,FL was a visitor in Covington last Saturday.While here,he called on his comrade of the Spanish-American War,Maj.M.A.WALKER,of this city.It was the first meeting of the veterans since being mustered out of service 34 years ago.

VICTIM OF POISON--In ill health and despondant over financial matters,Mrs.Effie CARNEY,of Memphis,took several poison tablets at the home of a brother in Memphis Monday morning,dying a few hours later in St.Joseph’s Hospital.Funeral services held in Maley’s Funeral Home,this city,Tuesday morning,by Rev.E.H.HUTCHISON,of the Central Christian Church,interment following in Munford Cemetery.Surviving are her husband: a son by a former marriage,Nesbit RICHARDSON,of Charleston; her mother,Mrs.P.A.BRIGMAN,of near Charleston; two brothers,Dan and John BRIGMAN,of the Tabernacle vicinity; one brother,Joe BRIGMAN,of Memphis and four sisters; Mrs.W.A.MASSEY,of near Tabernacle, Mrs.B.K.WILLIAMSON,of Kansas City,MO, Mrs.H.E.McGOWAN,of Chicago,and Mrs.L.B.DUVERNETT,of New Orleans,LA.

THE LEAFLETS--Relatives in this section received letters last week from Mrs.Katherine Wilson HYATT,of Monticello,AR bearing the sad news of the death of her mother,Mrs.Elizabeth WILSON,which occurred Wednesday May 4th,at the HYATT home.Mrs.WILSON,before her marriage to the late A.J.WILSON,was a McCAIN,being born,reared and married in the Idaville community.She was a neice of the late Capt.C.B.SIMONTON,of Covington;and was the mother of the late T.Y.& J.W.MURPHEY.She was a sister of the late Mrs.J.W.LYNN,for many years a resident of Covington.She was a sister of the late Judge W.R.McCAIN,of AR and the late Dr.J.L.McCAIN,of SC. --Mrs.Thomas ANDERSON,of Wrights,recently received a letter bearing the sad news of the death of Mr.J.L.TAYLOR,of Lebanon; also that of his late wife.Mr.TAYLOR was well known to many people of the Sharon community,as he,with his first wife,had charge of the Dunlap Orphanage for two years,soon after Mr.& Mrs.Kerr Oates gave up the work.Mrs.TAYLOR died and he remarried.By strange coincidence,both Mr.TAYLOR and his second wife died about the same time,being interred in the same grave. --Mrs.C.B.HENDREN and daughter,Katherine,are spending part of this week with the former’s father,W.C.WRIGHT.--Mr.& Mrs.Otis HART are visiting the former’s mother,Mrs.Margie HART,and his sisters,Mrs.J.L.MOORE and Mrs.J.R.WILSON,all of Idaville.

ELECTION JUDGE SAYS 102 NEGROES VOTED AT CORONA--The speedy introduction of affidavits in the WARD--HARRIS election contest quickly aroused interest to fever heat.J.L.JACKSON and C.J.STOCKLEY,judge and clerk at Corona made affidavits that of 119 votes cast in that precient; 102 were negroes,and 17 were white. J.L.COMBS,judge of the Gainsville precient,made affidavit that of 96 votes cast there,64 were negroes. Affidavits of white and colored citizens were also read,admitted the colored votes cast.~BULLITIN~Immediately after the attorneys arguments,Chairman RICHARDSON asked for a motion to dismiss the contest from further consideration.He received a motion,and second and on roll call,a vote of 10 to 3 was recorded in favor of dismissing the contest.(very lenghtly column on the hearing)

RECEIVES PRIZE CHECK--”The service is there in every pair.” is the slogan suggested by Guy T.WARD,which netted him the sum of $1000,the first prize in a contest conducted by the Peters Shoe Company,of St.Louis.

YOUNG WOMAN DIES--Miss Lucille BRASFIELD,18 year old daughter of Mr.& Mrs.J.E.BRASFIELD,of this vicinity,died at the Western State Hospital,Bolivar,Monday.The body was brought by R.S.Maley ambulance to Covington,funeral services being held at Mt.Carmel Cemetery Wednesday morning,conducted by Rev.E.H.HUTCHISON.

JUDGE PEETE’S MEMORY--The memory of the late Judge John Y.PEETE will be perpetuated Sunday,May 29th,at the Annual Pilrimage Service and homecoming at Old Trinity Chapel near Mason.

LARGE BARN BURNS--The large S.E.McCLERKIN barn near Gilt Edge,was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.It was struck by lightening.About 200 bales of hay,corn,hogs and farming implements were destroyed.

MISS ANDERSON FEATURED--Miss Erin ANDERSON,of Memphis,talented daughter of Mr.& Mrs.E.E.ANDERSON,of that city,formerly of this place,had a conspicious part on the program of the first annual Electric Refrigeration Show at the Ellis Auditorium.She danced the Peacock number.

JOHN CULBERSON DIES--John CULBERSON,24,of Durant OK died suddenly Thursday,May 19th,after a very brief illness.Besides other relatives,his sister,Mrs.Hughes BRINGLE,of this city,was at his bedside when the end came.He had visited Covington and was pleasantly remembered here,the news of his untimely passing being sincerely regretted.

MRS.TERRY DIES--Mrs.R.B.TERRY,a kinswoman of Mrs.W.V.BRINGLE,of this city,died at St.Thomas Hospital,Nashville,on Monday following a major operation.The remains were carried to Paducah,KY and then to Princeton,KY where the funeral services were held today. Mr.& Mrs.W.V.BRINGLE and their son,Hughes BRINGLE,of this city attended the funeral.

MORNING WEDDING IS WEEK’S SOCIAL EVENT--Miss Earnestine SMITH,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Malcolm A. SMITH,became the bride of Mr.Frank Milton LEWIS,son of Mr.& Mrs. A.W.LEWIS,of Copper Hill,in a most interesting Tuesday morning wedding.Rev.Homer G.LINDSEY read the ceremony at 9 o’clock in the First Baptist Church before a large number of relatives and friends of the young couple.Music was provided by Mrs.Julian WALKER; Miss Mosella ELCAN; Miss Ivan CARPENTER.The bride was gowned in a model of blue triple chiffon with blue hat and slippers,wearing a shoulder bouquet of pink roses.She was given in marriage by her father. Mrs.L.L.DENNIS,matron of honor and sister of the bride wore beige chiffon with beige accessories.Miss Betty NEVILS,maid of honor wore rose crepe with beige accessories.Mr.Albert W.LEWIS,student at the U.of T. Medical College,Memphis,was his brother’s best man.Ushers were:Mr.Charles SMITH,brother of the bride, Mr.Beardon OVERALL, Mr.George GRACEY, and Mr.E.L.ROBER,Jr.The couple will make their home at Crawfordsville,TN. Out of town guests were Mrs.M.J.HATHCOCK and Mrs.S.C.POPHAM,of Memphis.

LOCAL MAN INJURED IN MEMPHIS WRECK--Colliding with a street car at Second & Poplar as they were returning to their home at Covington, J.T.JOHNSON,35,and Tom SMITH,20,were slightly injured Monday.SMITH & JOHNSON,bruised about the face and legs were taken to St.Joseph’s Hospital,treated and released.When the collision occurred the car was thrown against the First Methodist Church,the car being badly damaged.No arrests were made.JOHNSON is the former operator of Covindale and SMITH is the son of Rubin SMITH,of this vicinity.

LOCALS--BORN to Mr.& Mrs. Henry HANKS,of Salem,Thursday,May 12th,a daughter,Daisy Ellen. --Mr.& Mrs.George GRACEY are now occupying an apartment in the Dr.N.W.KELLY residence on East Liberty. --Friends report that Ethel SALMON,a recent graduate of the Almyra School,was presented a prize for her accuracy in spelling and a medal for making the highest average for the year. --The local fire department answered a call to the W.J.HAYSE residence on South Main Wednesday morning.A burning flue was extinguished with no loss of property. --Handsome engraved invitations have been received from Miss Martha Elizabeth HOWARD,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.W.C.HOWARD,of this vicinity.She will graduate from the Agnes Scott College; Decatur,GA this year. --While bringing in clothing from a rear yard Monday of last week,Mrs.R.F.HUFFMAN,of the Detroit vicinity,was bitten on the arm by a very poisionous spider.She suffered much pain for several days. --Miss Helen SMITH,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.L.T.SMITH,has completed a beauty course in Memphis.

FOE MISS SOMERVILL--Mr.& Mrs.Wm.A.SOMERVILL,of Mason,will be at home on Sunday afternoon,May 29th,from 3 to 6 o’clock with open house to compliment their daughter,Miss Maude SOMERVILL,whose marriage to Mr.Benton TERRY,of Cookeville,will be solemnized June 1st at Old Trinity Chapel.

SALMON-SMITH--Miss Willie SMITH,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Vas SMITH,of Bolton,and Mr.T.D.SALMON,youngest son of Mr.& Mrs.J.D.SALMON,of Idaville,were married Friday,April 20th.

KERRVILLE--Mr.J.E.McDANIEL,who has been confined to his bed for five months,seems to be a little improved at this writing.

BRIGHTON NOTES--Mr.Irvin TILLMAN,of Curve,is spending a few days with his brother,Mr.O.L.TILLMAN,before leaving for Pontotic,MS for a visit with another brother,Mr.Carl TILLMAN. --Mr.& Mrs.J.J.HORN,of Brighton,entertained last Sunday with a picnic dinner especially honoring Mrs.HORN’s grandfather,Mr.Wylie FARMER,of Memphis,being the celebration of his 78th birthday. Mr.& Mrs.Ed ROSE and son spent Sunday with relatives at Holly Grove.

THE LEAFLETS--Rev.D.S.YOUNG,who with his family are visiting relatives in the vicinity of Rosemark and Idaville. --Mrs.Edgar HUNTER,of the Orohanage,spent two days last week with her mother,Mrs.R.G.GARRISON,of Tigrett.She was accompanied by one of the little girls of the home,Thelma WALK.

DETROIT NOTES--Many people in this vicinity were grieved over the sudden and unexpected death of Mr.W.A.(Jack) DANIELS,of Covington.Mr.DANIELS had made regular business trips here for a number of years. --The small son of Mr.Asbury LAWRENCE,who had been receiving treatment in a Memphis hospital,died there Sunday.He was buried at Elm Grove Cemetery Monday.

PARKER-ANDERSON--Mr.Fred W.PARKER and Miss Mellie ANDERSON,both of the Tabernacle vicinity,were quietly married last Saturday at Marion,AR Rev.L.P.FLEMING officiating.The bride is a daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Henry ANDERSON,and the groom,a son of Mr.& Mrs.T.P.PARKER.They will make their home in Tabernacle.

DEATH--Mrs.Mary Sanford PERSON,wife of Dr.W.C.PERSON,of Orlando,FL died recently at the family residence in that FL city.She was a daughter of Major Henry & Mrs. Jean SANFORD,was born at Covington January 12th,1853.In 1876,she was married to Dr.PERSON and for the past 41 years,they resided in Orlando,Dr.PERSON being one of the leading physicians in central FL for more than 35 years.Besides her husband,she is survived by three daughters,one son and five grandchildren.
