Earwood's Reminisce on Golden Anniversary
"For a nickel we could ride the streetcar all over Memphis," said Dan Earwood about the honeymoon he and his bride had 50 years ago, following their wedding in Hernando, Miss.
"We ran off to get married," added Mrs. Earwood, "then spent the week with cousins in Memphis. I bet we didn't spend $20 on our entire honeymoon." "We were married by Mr. Wiessinger, who was pastor of the Church of Christ in Hernando," said Mr. Earwood. The couple was born and raised in Tipton County and have made their home here.
Reminiscing about their wedding, the Earwoods were honored on their golden anniversary with an open house from 2 - 4 p.m. in their home at 301 North Maple. Honoring them were their children, Mrs. Jim Richardson and Mr. Richardson, Mrs. George Whitehead and Mr. Whitehead, Mrs. D.B. Sims and Mr. Sims and Eugene Earwood and Mrs. Earwood.
Wearing a dress of green knit, the honoree was presented a corsage of a single yellow Talisman rose. Each of her daughters-in-law and her daughter also had a yellow rose corsage.
Register Table
The register table in the entrance hall was marked with an arrangement of a dozen yellow Talisman roses. Laura Earwood and Geana Whitehead, granddaughters of the couple, registered the guests. A potted arrangement of bronze chrysanthemums was placed on a side table.
In the living room an arrangement of sunflowers was used to decorate as well as a compote of yellow roses placed on the mantel that reflected in the mirror. Gifts were opened and placed for display in an adjoining bedroom. In the dining room, the reception table was overlaid with a curwork cloth. A dozen yellow Talisman roses and three yellow candles formed the centerpiece.
The wedding cake was shaped like an open book and outlined with netting. "Happy Anniversary, Mother and Daddy" was inscribed on one side with a golden foil 50th anniversary on one "page". Yellow roses decorated the other "page". Janice Whitehead and Donna Sims, granddaughters of the couple, assisted in serving. Yellow chrysanthemums were held in a low bowl on the sideboard.
The Earwoods have 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
