I Charles Goodall do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me at any time made.

First I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any moneys that I may die [possessed] of or may first come into the hands of my executors.

Secondly I loan to my wife Patsy Goodall One negro man named [?] one man named Milton one boy named Adam. Also one negro woman name [?] one woman named Catharine. Also I [?] to her my tract of land on which we reside together with all my household and kitchen furniture farming utensils [three] of horses three milk cows three brood [mares] ten head of sheep one cart and one yoke oxen also a sufficiency of provision for [her] support for one year.


Thirdly I give to my son Wm W Goodall one hundred and fifty dollars at the [?] of my wife Patsy Goodall out of the property willed to her to make him equal with [what] I have given the rest of my children. I charge my son Wm W Goodall Four [hundred] and ninety dollars for moneys paid [to] him as security also two hundred fifty dollars collected by him from the Estate of Jesse Wood. I further charge him with a [?quantity] of tobacco for which he must account to my Executors.


Fourthly I charge my daughter Lucy Huffman six hundred dollars which I paid for Wilkerson C Huffman as security after giving her an equal [?portion] with the other children and she [must] account for that sum in the division of the property that I have willed to my wife Patsy Goodall and after that debt is [?paid] without interest.

Fifthly I loan to my son Charles J Goodall one negro man named Harry and one negro girl named Minerva for his use and benefit and at his death to the lawfully begotten heirs of his body the above named negroes not to be made [useable] for the payment of his debts or [?]. If he should die without children the above named negroes then to be apart of the Estate together with their increase equally divided among all my grandchildren [herein] named . ……..one line crossed out …. each one to share [alike] I further loan to him two beds and [?clothing] at my death. Also one hundred and fifty dollars to be made out of that part of my Estate willed to my wife at her death. All the property named [?in] the fifth item to be placed in the hand of Robert M Field who is hereby appointed trustee for the above name Chas J Goodall.

Sixth I will that all my property [not] named in the above will be sold to the highest bidder as soon as practical after my death. Also all my property [?] to my wife Patsy Goodall to be sold as soon as practicable after her death and proceeds of each sale to be equally divided among my grand children as follows. All the children of Wm W Goodall, all the children of my daughter Milly Belote also all the children of my daughter Elizabeth Gibson also all the children of my daughter Lucy Huffman and also my son Chas J Goodall.

Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint Robert M Field and David Goodall my Executors.
In witness where of I do [?] my will set my hand and seal this 9 day of January 1850.

I Charles Goodall having hereunto made and published my last will and testament do make and declare this codicil thereto to wit first I will that the proceeds of my property when sold all according to the provisions of my will shall be equally divided and loaned to my children as follows my son Wm W Goodall my daughter Milly Belote my daughter Lucy Huffman my daughter Elizabeth Gibson and my son Charles Goodall during their natural life time and after their death individually revert each ones part to his or her children – lastly it is my desire that his codicil be attached to and [constitute] a part of my will [to] all intents and purposes this 9th day of January

Sumner County Court August Term 1850
The last will and testament of Charles Goodall together with the codicil thereto attached was this day produced in open court for probate and was both [duly] proved by the Oath of James L Carson and Jonathan Wiseman the subscribing witnesses thereto and [and ordered to be recorded] [and thereupon] David L Goodall one of the executors named [in] said will, appeared in open court and [entered] into and [acknowledged] his bond together with Wm T Andrews and William Gipson on his security in the sum of Seven Thousand [dollars] [?] as the law [directs and was duly qualified and appointed]
