A GRANT BY HENRY BRADFORD WHICH SERVES IN PLACE OF A WILL

His Children Be it known to all persons that I Henry Bradford of Sumner County in the State of Tennessee that for and in consideration of the love and duty of my daughter Cecilia Bradford to me and the love I have for her and other valuable considerations, hath given and by these presents do give, grant convey, those hundred & Twenty acres of land in Jones' Bend, the same I hold in deed from Gen'l. James Robertson also the following Negroes, Silvia, Luke, Jerry & Aley and the second colt my Truxton mare has or may have. Further, one fifth part of my furniture and utensils of every sort unless or except such articles as are given to some of my other children by special description of this date this Intended the stock of all sorts are subject to the above division. ~ Be it known also that I in the same manner, on the same conditions and for the same considerations do give grant convey & confirm to the heirs of Ira Bradford under his direction for their use, my part of an undivided tract of six hundred & forty acres of land lying on Station Camp Creek and my part of several tracts of lands on Red River also the following Negroes, Hampshir, Charles, Esther and Orange (?), with one fifth part of all my furniture and utensils of every sort unless or except such articles as are or may be given to some of my other children by description of this date. ~

Be it also known that I in the same manner on the conditions and for the same considerations do give grant convey and confirm to my son Larkin Bradford. ~

Be it further known I in the same manner on the same conditions and for the same considerations do give grant convey and confirm to my son Henry C. Bradford a certain tract of land lying & being in the County of Rutherford containing two hundred & twenty acres more or less joining the lands of Thacker on the North and that of Edwards on the East, the same I purchased of John Blackmore also another certain tract of land lying and being in the County of Wilson on Bradleys Creek containing or being two thirds of six hundred and forty acres granted to John Fowler & conveyed to me by the Sheriff and Collector of Wilson County and further the following Negroes, Darkas, Tom, Jacob and Israel also one fifth part of all my furniture and farming utensils of every sort, unless or except such articles as are or may be given by special description of this date. ~

Be it also known that I in the same manner on the same conditions & for the same considerations have given & by these presents do give grant convey & confirm to my son Priestly Bradford one half of the tract of land wheron I now live, including the several purchases from Smith, Hendrich & Thomas also the following Negroes Anica, Isaac & Daniel & Alfred with one fifth of all my furniture and farming utensils of every sort unless or except such articles as are or may be given to some of my other children by special description of this date. ~

And be it further known, I, in the same manner, on the same conditions and for the same considerations gave, give and by these presents do give grant, convey and confirm to my Daughter Sophia Bradford the other half of the tract of land whereon I now live Including the same purchases of Smith, Hendrich & Thomas also the following Negroes, Sulton, Rachel, Joe and Sarah with one fifth part of all my furniture and farming utensils of every sort, unless or except such articles as are or may be given by special description of this date. ~ Be it understood I give to all two Beds & two Cows & calves Cecelia Excepted & I further give to my Daughter Sophia Bradford the third colt my Truxton mare has or may have.

But it is to be fully understood that all the above conveyances are subject to the following Express Conditions, viz I do Retain the possession and use of the plantation & all its appurtenances Stock furniture, etc. for the support of myself and family during my natural life and that of my wife during her widowhood if such the case may be with proper accommodations in my house where I now live ~ and that I Retain full power to exchange sell or convey all or any part of the property hereby conveyed to those children who are under the age of twenty one years during their Non age, but for their own and sole use benefit & behoof - hereby confirming these several above conveyances both in law and equity to them severally and their heirs forever. ~

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twelfth day of March Eighteen hundred and Ten ~

Davidson County Court July Sessions 1815
The annexed deed of bargain and sale between Henry Bradford of the one part and Cecilia Bradford, the heirs of Ira Bradford, Larkin Bradford, Henry C. Bradford, Priestly Bradford & Sophia Bradford dated the 20th day of March 1810, with a confirmation of Cecilia's part to William Carroll dated the first July 1815 was proven in April Court to be the act and deed of the said Henry Bradford by the Oaths of John Byson and George R. Dismukes two of the subscribing witnesses trusts and ordered to be so Certified. ~

In testimony whereof I Nathan Ewing Clerk of said Court have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court at office in Nashville the 29th day of July in the year of Our Lord 1815. ~ Nathan Ewing
