In the name of God, Amen! I, James Boyle of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee, being weak of body and of sound mind and memory and understanding, thanks unto Almighty God for the same, and being mindful of my mortality do make and constitute this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First and primarily, I recommend my soul to God who gave it in hopes of a joyful resurrection, and my body to the earth when it shall please God to separate my soul and body, and I wish my body decently buried at the direction of my Executors. And as to such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me, I give and dispose of as follows, to wit: first, my will and desire is that all my personal estate to be sold by my executors on a credit of twelve months, also that my land be sold on a credit of twelve months after my decease and from the proceeds thereof I wish all my just debts be paid and funeral expense if any. It is also my will and desire that my son-in-law Joseph McGlothlin will take my brother John Boyle to his own house and my negro man named Daniel, one cow and bedstead and one bed and furniture and take care of him and treat him as one of his own family so long as he the said brother John Boyle shall live. My will and my desire is that my two granddaughters (to wit) Minerva and Lydia Boyle shall have out of my estate five hundred dollars each agreeable to said article of agreement that myself, Levi C. Shy and Rachel Shy entered into and despoited with William Brackin for safekeeping until called for by the parties, reference being had to said article will fully show, and after the said granddaughters get the above named five hundred dollars agreeable to said article, then my will and desire is that they get no more of my estate. After the above mentioned sums or items are satisfied out of my estate my will and desire is that the balance of my estate be equally divided between or among my children (to wit) Ann McGlothlin, Rachel House, Polly House, Susanna Freedle and Sina House. It is my will and desire that James House, husband of my daughter Sina shall take the negro boy named London by giving his note for two hundred which I have paid him in place of the negro boy London and that he have a good right for said boy. If he the said James House should refuse to give his note for the said two hundred dollars then and in that case he is to keep the money and the boy London is to be equally divided among the mentioned daughters with negroes as above named. It is my will and desire that my slaves be those who are specifically (?) divided should be equally divided among my children as follows (to wit) my wish is that the Legatees agree among themselves in dividing the negroes but if they cannot agree, then in that case, they are to choose three or more disinterested men and have the negroes valued, then those of my children who get one negro of more value than the others that they shall pay cash to the other until they all have equal value.

I, James Boyle, do nominate and appoint Joseph McGlothlin and William House my Executors to carry into effect this my last will and testament. In Witness Whereof I ahve hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of October 1831.
James Boyle
