I Asa Hassell make and publish this as my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all others by me at any other time made.
First I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of my money that I may die.....as may first come into the hands of my Executor.
Second I give to my wife Sarah Hassell during her natural life all of my land containing some
three hundred and fifteen acres and three negroes Hasty aged some fifty three years, John some
twenty four years and Clay aged some thirteen years with all of my stock of horses, cattle, sheep
and all the corn fodder, oats and wheat that may be on hand at my death and the crop that may be
growing with all my household and kitchen furniture of every description. Also I give her my
stock of hogs with all my farming utensils of all descriptions. After the death of my wife Sarah
Hassell I give to my two sons John Jennet Hassell and Jesse James Hassell all of my land to be
divided between my sons John Jennet Hassell and Jesse James Hassell. My son John Jennet
Hassell to take the land on the lower end of the land which is the Southern end of said land lying
in Tennessee Sumner County on district No. 10 and bounded by lands of George Duke Milton
Brigance and others the land to be divided by acres so that John Jennet Hassell's number of acres
shall be on the lower end of said land. I give to my Daughter Elizabeth wife of James Davis my
negro George aged some seventeen years and I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Davis seven
hundred dollars. I give to my son John Jennet Hassell seven hundred dollars and I give to my son
Jesse James Hassell my negro boy boy Clay aged some thirteen years which he is to receive at the
death of my wife Sarah Hassell. After the death of my wife Sarah Hassell I wish what is left that is
not disposed of to be sold and equally divided between my children Eliza Cooly, Caroline Duke,
John Jennet Hassell, Jesse James Hassell, and Elizabeth Davis and Martha Garrett having
heretofore given my daughter Eliza Cooly, Caroline Duke and Martha Garrett their full
proportion of my estate. I do hereby nominate and constitute and appoint John Jennet Hassell and
James Davis my Executors to this my last will and testament this 10th day of June 1858.

The last will and testament of Asa Hassell dec. was this day produced in open court for probate
and was duly proven by the oath of R. G. Gillespie and Cullen Edwards subscribing witnesses
thereto and ordered to be recorded And John J. Hassell and James Davis the executors named on
said will appeared in open court and accepted the execution of the same and thereupon the said
John J. Hassell and James Davis together with John Cotton and Solomon S... their security
appeared in open court and entered into and acknowledged their hand(?) to the State of
Tennessee the .. sum of eight thousand dollars conditioned(?) as the law directs and was duly
qualified.
