Phineas Trousdale -1635- booked passage from England to Barbados.
Ann Trousdale- 1679- arrived from England, died Barbados.
Barbados was a destination of the ships bound for America at that time.

William and John "the elder" Trousdale show registered in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, from Ulster Province, Ireland.(Protestant) migrated 1730-1735.

John Trousdale moved to Orange county, North Carolina, then to the Gallatin, Tennessee area, while information on brother William of Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania -land survey 1756-ends. (children listed in William's will of 1785 were William jr., Thomas and Margaret.- brother John is listed favorably in his will, also).

This is where our Tennessee to California Trousdale family begins:

John Trousdale, 1704-1784, Ireland- married Elizabeth.
6 children, eldest two born in Ireland, other 4 born in Pennsylvania, family moved to Tennessee as adults. 3 girls, 3 boys
William, died 1807( eldest )
John jr., died 1797- married Miss Ferguson

Captain James, 1736-1818, married twice:
Elizabeth Ferguson, m 1761, 5 children(possibly died from childbirth)
Elizabeth Dobbins, b-1753 Orange co., North Carolina, d-1839, 10 children
of those children, William Trousdale, b-1790, d-1872, became Governor of Tennessee, after a distinguished military career. Trousdale county named after him, his nephew Leon gave the dedication speech.
Bryson Blackburn Trousdale, a younger brother, b-1793,d-1878, is the father of our branch of the Trousdale family of Tennessee!

He was born in Orange county, North Carolina, died and buried at Mount Olive, Nashville, Tennessee. He studied law and moved to Robertson county, He owned property at Jackson, Madison county. He administered a will in Jackson, was fined a $1.00 for retailing liquor, cr 1830 and secured a retroactive pension for his elderly mother, Elizabeth Dobbins, then a widow. He was appointed trustee of the Lewis academy(1856). He and his first wife, Susan Hicks, married in Springfield, Tennessee, 1813. 5 children born: ( 2nd wife Maria Smith-no children)
Albert Gallatin- b 1815, served under Houston, no children.
Cincinnatus-d- 1852, a lieutenant in the Mex War, moved to Arkansas, no children
Leonidas- 1823-1897, m 1853 Virgina Frances Joy, 5 children.
Susan - m- 1847- and an infant daughter that died.(no name given)
Leonidas Trousdale sr. was known as Leon. He was a captain (1861) and later an assistant adj general of M.J. Wright's brigade in the Civil War, cited Oct3, 1863 for his invaluable services. He was editor of the Chattanooga Rebel, the Memphis Commercl and later of the Appeal. After the war, Leon became the State Superint. of Education for Tennessee, giving public speeches and setting policies. His wife, Virginia Frances Joy, daughter of Levi and Martha Johnson Joy of Boston, Ma, had 5 children :

Jennie Joy, b-1856, d-1938, m- Edward Smith, Cincinnati-no children
Susie, died in infancy
Leon jr, b-1862, d-1937, m- Lillian James Cantrell, 1892
Levi Joy, b1867, d- 1919, m- Mary Martin Wade, 1893.

Levi Joy and Mary Martin Wade had a son named Goulding Marr b-1899 and Goulding Marr married Martha Perkins, 1923. Their son, Goulding Marr, jr born Aug 30, 1928 is known as "Denny". He resides in Tennessee today. We love him very much.

Leon jr. and Lillian had 2 children:
Leon III, b-1893, d-1910 from fever.
Charles Eastman, b-1895 d-1985, was named after Charles Eastman, husband of Lillian's older sister, Kate Cantrell. Charles was a Mason and a CPA with his own accounting firm in SanPedro, California. His parents moved from Tennessee to Southern California when he was young. His childhood nanny, Carrie , also moved with this small family. Lillian's poor health was the reason cited for the move from Sumner county Tennessee to California. In 1903, this Trousdale family opened one of the first grocery stores in Long Beach, Ca. They moved back to the South in 1910. Then returned permanently to California.

Charles sr. married -1923-Florence June Steffy (b-1900, d-1983)
Florence is the daughter of Frank Steffy and Rosa(Pugh) Steffy-Montana (Utah)

Charles Eastman jr., b-1926, married-1953, Mary Margaret Lawrence, b-1933
(only daughter of Charles Henry (Vorwerk)Lawrence and Emma Johanna Peters)
Charles jr. served in the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Merchant Marines (WW II) and U.S. Marine Corps (Korean War). He attended Jepson art school in Los Angeles, Ca. and the grand Chaumiere art college in Paris. wife-Mary-studied at Marymount college and is an accomplished organist. Both gave a great deal of musical work to their Church. They have four children:
Lillian James, b-1954, m-1976, Burford Rutledge Tunnell, 1 child,Bianca Rae, 1977
Margaret Mary, b-1956, m- David Lombrozo, 3 children, Joseph, Aaron and Leon
Steffy Jean, b-1959, m- Daniel O. Morseth, 1 child, Charles Daniel, 1986
Teresa Frances, b-1961.
Valerie June Trousdale, b-1929, married 1948, Jack Reynolds Brown, b-1927 2 children, Lance John Reynolds Brown, b-1949-m Stephonia Daria, 2children
Alexander and Laura-currently living in Bremerton, Washington
Laurel Lee Brown, b- 1951, m- J.R. Taylor, 2 children, currently living in Baltimore, Maryland.
