Quinton Sarver BELL, son of Patton BELL and Jane GILBERT and grandson of Jeremiah BELL and Elizabeth SARVER, was born in Sumner Co., TN 7 Dec. 1832. He was named for his great uncle Quinton SARVER who died the year of his birth.

On 22 June 1854 he was married to Mary Frances HOLMES, daughter of Albert Garner HOLMES and Milly TURNER, and granddaughter of Lt. Robert HOLMES, Revolutionary soldier.

In 1858 "Quint" as he was called, bought 124 acres on Little Trammel Creek, later bought land on middle fork of Drakes Creek.

Leaving his wife and four small children, aged 6 down to one month old, Thomas Wilson BELL, my grandfather, Quinton enlisted in the Confederate Army in the 7th Cavalry on 19 Oct. 1861. He was wounded in left hand at Shiloh, then transferred to 6th TN Cavalry. He was discharged on disability at Tupelo, Mississippi in June 1862 and brought home helpless by his brother, Alfred E. BELL. In September he went to Hartsville to enlist in the 9th Cavalry but was refused re-enlistment on his physical condition.

After his returning home they had another son the next year. He lived the remainder of his life as a farmer in northern Sumner County.

"Quint" was a member of the Presbyterian Church but when he died 24 Nov. 1906 he was buried at Mt. Vernon Methodist Church cemetery. My mother remembered seeing him only a few times since her parents lived in Macon County prior to his death.

Mary Frances lived until 1913 and is buried at Mt. Vernon Church cemetery also.
