A will written by Mathew RIPPY in Orange Co, NC, proved 17 Jan 1817,
named sons John, Edward, Joseph, Thomas, James and Jesse. His deceased
daughter Jinny (GANT?) was also mentioned, and in addition he possibly
might have these daughters; Ann (Edw. COOK, md 1808), Sarah (Grant ISHAM md
1798), and Frances (Wm. GANT, md 1780's).
James and Jesse were in TN by 1816. There was a James in Smith Co. (b
1794-1804) in 1820; and a James and Edward (b 1794-1804) in Sumner Co TN in
1820. An older Edward ( b.1763-65) was also in Sumner Co in 1820. He was
b ca1765 in Ireland, and married Nancy McCRACKEN in NC. They had at least
5 children: John. Anderson, Thomas M, Isaac and Mary(Polly).
Thomas M (Mathew?) b ca1811, Orange Co NC, married Rosana WILLIAMS in
1827 in NC; and died in 1884. He is buried near Providence, TN (Sumner
Co). They were in TN by 1834. They had at least 10 children: James
Wesley, Charles Edward, Thomas , Amanda M,, Lucretia (Lavinia?) A, Hiram,
Nancy and possibly 3 more daughters.
Charles Edward, was b 1836 in Sumner Co, married Mrs Francis LANE
STEWARD in 1863. She had a daughter, Margaret A.E STEWARD, and they had 10
more children, the last born in Denton Co, TX in 1884. They were: John W,
Alice Rosana, Minerva Tennessee, Leeonidas, Harrison, Thomas McMahon,
Euberia, E.H. (Edward? Ephraim? Curtis?), Dink, and T.E. (Toga? Tobias?)
Alice Rosana RIPPY was b 3 Sept 1865 in Galliten, Sumner Co TN. Her
family came to TX when she was 15. She married James GREER in 1886 in
Denton Co TX. He died in 1915, and she later married Rev. Eli SHIFLETT in
1924. He died in 1949 and she died 18 Nov 1953 in Denton Co. TX.
My GREER line includes Oran F. and Elizabeth SMITH GREER (my
grandparents) and my parents, Luther F. and Katheryn GREER HARGROVE.
