The Pruett Family

Reuben Pruett (Prewitt & other spellings) was born in Virginia about 1760 and moved to Sumner County, TN after fighting in the Revolution. He brought a wife and son, Silas, with him to Sumner County. Silas was born in 1790 and served in the War of 1812. Silas had 13 children, 11 of whom were male. The eldest William served in the Seminole Indian Wars of 1836. Five of the other sons served in the Civil War, Confederate side. The sons were John W, Reuben, James, Paul, Silas Barnabas and George. One was killed, one was captured and sent to Camp Douglas, IL, one was injured at Kennesaw Mountain and spent the remainder of the war in the hospital, one was disabled because of measles and one from typhoid fever.
