Joseph H. PEYTON was born in Sumner County in 1813. He received a liberal education, studied medicine and practiced for a short time, then entered the political field. He held various local offices, and in 1841 was elected State Senator. In 1843 he was elected a member of Congress as a Whig. Was reelected in 1845, and died November 12 of the same year.
