The family intermarried into the line of John BRACKIN four times and carries a suffiecent
interest to this branch of the BRACKIN family to include a brief sketch. The progenitor of the family
was Thomas GROVES, listed in DAR Patriot Index as born about 1754. He died in Sumner Co.,
Tenn. in 1814, leaving a will, Bk. 6, p. 193, naming wife Eady, sons John, Thomas, Allen, David,
and Isaac; daughters Gilly (GRAINGER), Betsy, Rhoda, Polly, Sally and Leah. John married (1)
Martha COLLIER (2) Sarah (Sally) SKEEN, Thomas married Anna DENNING, Allen married Mary
(Polly) UZZELL, David married Susannah RONEY, Isaac married (1) Mary ____ (2) Margaret
(Peggy) E. ___, Gilly married Benjamin GRAINGER, Rhoda married John BRACKIN, Mary (Polly)
married Andrew DENNING, Leah married William RONEY. According to a grandson of Thomas
and Eady GROVES (David GROVES in 1890), his grandmother GROVES was a HARROD.

John GROVES and his 1st wife Martha COLLIER had Alexander Augustus GROVES. By his
second wife Sally SKEEN (daughther of Jesse SKEEN and Keziah TAYLOR), he had Martha Ann
GROVES (Oct. 29, 1829 - Feb. 8, 1903 married John Alexander BRACKIN), Mary Catherine
GROVES, Elizabeth M. GROVES, William Thomas GROVES, Eliazabeth E. GROVES, Nancy
E. GROVES, Emily K. GROVES, Lucy Jane GROVES (Feb. 18, 1841 - June 2, 1929, married
Jackson Andrew BRACKIN), John Adams GROVES, and Franklin Clay GROVES.
Isaac GROVES and his 1st wife Mary had Alexander GROVES, Rhoda GROVES, Martha
GROVES, Louise GROVES, Sallie GROVES, Thomas GROVES, John (Jack) GROVES, Isaac
GROVES, and James GROVES. By his second wife Margaret, he had Wiley GROVES, Billy
GROVES, Lonnie GROVES, and Mary GROVES. Isaac, one of twins (his twin David) was born
in North Carolina in 1787 and he died Dec. 20, 1877. Mary died Jan. 1848.
Alexander GROVES, son of the above Isaac GROVES was born Dec. 14, 1832 and died Aug
7, 1904. He was married Nov. 10, 1856 to Mary Catherine MCGLOTHLIN (daughter of William
MCGLOTLHIN and Nancy SKEEN). She was born Nov. 1, 1836 and died Nov. 30, 1907. Their
children were: William Alexander (b. Sept 15, 1857), Thomas Jefferson (b. Mar. 15, 1858), Alice
Bell (b. Deec. 7, 1861), Nancy Louise (b. June 17, 1864), John Henry (b. April 17, 1867), Charlie
Zachariah (b. May 12, 1868, married Fannie BRACKIN), Dora Lee (b. Dec. 28,. 1871), Isaac
Herschel (b. Aug. 19, 1877).
