William SOLOMON, born about 1798 in North Carolina married on 2 Nov. 1820 in Muhlenberg Co. KY to Frances A. SMITH, born 4 Sept 1804 in Tennessee (possibly Sumner Co.). Frances was the daughter of Perrin SMITH and Susanna. It is possible that William SOLOMON'S father was Aaron SOLOMON, who lived next to Susanna, the widow of Perrin SMITH, in the 1820 US Census of Muhlenberg Co., KY. However, I have no real proof.

William SOLOMON and/or his family were in Gallatin from the 1830 census through the 1870 census. He appears to have died in 1874. In the 1850 census he is listed as a hatter, in 1860 as a merchant. In 1870, he was counted with the family of Henry Fitzgerald as a Retired Merchant. His name was misspelled as SOLLOMON.

William SOLOMON was also Mayor of Gallatin in 1840, 1846 and 1847.

Children of William SOLOMON and Frances A. SMITH are:

  1. Perrin L. SOLOMON born abt 1822 in Kentucky, died between the 1860 and 1870 US Census in San Francisco, California. Spouse: Maria L. WILLIAMS, daughter of Alexander WILLIAMS of Gallatin, was born abt 1836 in Sumner Co., Tennessee. She died on the 21 Jan 1910 in Santa Rosa, California. Note: When she died her obit states.. "survived by her daughter, Mrs. Wyatt OATS of Santa Rose. Perrin and Maria married abt 1856, probably in California. Perrin was a Major in the War with Mexico. Listed as a hatter living with his father in 1850. Listed as a U.S. Marshall in the 9th District of San Francisco in 1860. Perrin L. SOLOMON went to California in 1850 and in the 1860 census of San Francisco, he and his wife, Maria L. have two children born in California. Mattie (Mittie?) A. SOLOMON, age 3 and Mary F. SOLOMON age 1. There is also a Levi D. SOLOMON age 19 living with them and I have no idea who he is. From the Sumner Co. TNGenWeb site, Tidbits from newspapers there is one that says: "Sept 1893, Mrs. Mattie OATS (nee Miss SOLOMON) of California' is here on a visit to her aunt Mrs. Miltie Boyers."

  2. Julia E. SOLOMON born 12 Feb 1824 in Gallatin, Sumner Co. TN. She died 3 Sept 1855 in Springfield, Robertson Co., TN. Her grave was moved to the Elmwood Cemetery in Springfield after it was opened. She married 20 July 1841 in Gallatin, Sumner Co. TN to Joakim GREEN. For more information see below.

She married William H. on 21 Dec 1853 in Gallatin and married a relative named Cincinnatus W. BOYERS after she was widowed. Her parents were Robert M. BOYERS and Elizabeth BANKS. William Houston SOLOMON was a lawyer. William Houston SOLOMON seemed to be the only child that stayed in Gallatin. They had a child, Mary E. SOLOMON that was born in 1859 and died the same year, that's buried in the Gallatin Cemetery. Then they had Willie Houston SOLOMON (Willamina the 1860 census) on 14 Mar 1860 just a month and two days before William H. died. She's on the 1860 census age 2 mo. with her mother who'd moved back in with her father, Robert M. BOYERS. Elizabeth married Cincinnatus W. BOYERS by the 1880 census and Willie is listed as his step-daughter. She grew up and married Charles Brooks BROWN . She's buried in the Gallatin Cemetery. 14 Mar 1860 to 17 Jan 1886. Charles remarried and lived until 20 Oct 1933. Willie and Charles seemed to have had one daughter, Nell Houston BROWN, that I found listed in the Gallatin Cemetery. She lived from 1885 to 1954 according to her tombstone and apparently didn't marry.

  4. Mary F. SOLOMON born 28 May 1832 in Gallatin, Sumner Co., TN, died 1 May 1897 in Springfield, Robertson Co., TN. She is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Springfield. She married on 23 Aug 1847 in Gallatin, Sumner Co., TN. to Gen. Wesley W. Pepper. For more information see below.

I also found the family of Frances A. SMITH's (wife of William SOLOMON) sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" SMITH living in Sumner Co., TN.
