William Gregory was born around 1764 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia to Richard W. Gregory and ? Overby. In the latter part of the 1700s, many of this family moved to Washington County, Kentucky. William married Mary Polly Epperson, the daughter of Richard Epperson, who was born in 1765 in Tennessee. In 1798, William moved his wife Mary and thier family to Sumner County, Tennessee. I know of eight children:

1. Richard Epperson Gregory was born on Jan. 15, 1790. On April 18, 1816 he married Anne Kelley. He died on April 22, 1863 in Fulton County, Indiana.
2. Obediah Gregory was born sometime between 1790-1800. On Jan. 4, 1823 he married Lucretia Spain in Sumner County, Tennessee.
3. Archibald Gregory was born in 1803. In April of 1834 he married Mary Latham.
4. John D. Gregory was born in 1806. He was married to Sara (Sally) Harper. He was a Private in Company B 18th Tennessee Confederate Infantry and he died while in the army.

5. Polly Gregory was born ?. On Feb. 11, 1830 she married Hugh Taylor.
6. Nancy Gregory was born ?. On Feb. 5, 1816 she married John Thurman.
7. Betsy Gregory was born ?. On April 27, 1806 she married William Hatfield in Nelson County, Kentucky.
8. Lucy Gregory was born ?. On Feb. 19, 1837 she married Benjamin Griffin.
