Henry SARVER, Jr. the son of Henry Sarver, Sr. who was the son of Casper SARVER and Thamer HALLE.

Henry Sarver, Jr. was born in North Carolina, probably Orange Co., and moved to Sumner County, TN. at the age of nine with his parents. He was born December 22, 1796, and died September 19, 1872. His siblings included:

  1. Keziah, married Reuben S. BROWN on March 15, 1823, Sumner Co. TN
  2. George Adams, born October 11, 1787 in NC and died Sept. 7, 1862 in Greene Co., IN; married Rachel STALCUP on January 23, 1810 Sumner Co., TN
  3. Margaret, born March 8 1786, died April 6, 1806 Sumner Co.,TN
  4. Elizabeth, born 1787, died 1837 Sumner Co., TN; married Jacob HARDER
  5. Mary, born 1793, died March 4, 1845 Sumner Co., TN; married Samuel SARVER, her first cousin
  6. Catherine, born May 11, 1801, died July 28, 1877 Sumner Co., TN; married Meredith HODGES January 10, 1819 Sumner Co., TN.

      In 1816 Henry is listed in the record of taxable property and polls of Sumner county. He held 325 acres on the West Fork of Drakes Creek.
      In 1838, he helped to gain subscribers to the Sumner County Agricultural Society.(Gallatin Union, May 11, 1838)
     Henry operated several mills including a carding mill and a pottery mill. He built a water mill for grinding wheat on Drake's Creek, a very short distance above the present concrete bridge on the Fowler Ford Road. This was the first flour mill in the region, and drew customers from a large area. The mill was washed away by a flood many years later.
      He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. In 1867, he was the Worthy Master of the Masonic Lodge in Fountain Head.

      On April 22, 1825 he married Mary Oldham RICE, the daughter of Elisha RICE and Nancy Ann COLLIER, in Sumner Co. with Samuel Guinn as bondsman. Mary Oldham Rice SARVER was born March 8, 1796 and died on August 3, 1859 and was buried in the Old Fountain Head Cemetery.

      Henry and Mary built a brick federal style house during the 1820s. The house, now referred to as the Oliver BUTLER house, is still standing on Fairfield Road.

1830 census of Sumner Co.(Su-179)1 son, 0-5yrs. 1 male 30-40 years; 1 female 0-5yrs; 1 female 30-40; and 1 female 40-50. It is uncertain who the older adult female is in this household in 1830.

1840 census of Sumner Co. (Sn 418) Henry's family is listed as 2110101-1200001.

1850 census Sumner Co. (Sn 8-400), Henry lists his birthplace as NC.

      After 1863, Henry married Mrs. Susan DOWLEN ROSS born September 2, 1816, the widow of Samuel Neal ROSS. Susan was the daughter of Harris DOWLEN and Susan HARGROVE. Susan was born September 2, 1816, and died September 22, 1887. She was buried near the Bandy House in Cairo Bend, Wilson County, Tn.

Henry SARVER and Mary Oldham RICE had the following children, all of whom were born in Sumner County.

  1. Elmore Hardy Cryer SARVER, born July 29, 1827;married Sarah Jane DENNING on February 10, 1852. Elmore died February 18, 1893 Sumner County, and was buried in the Old Fountain Head Cemetery. Sarah Jane was the daughter of James and Mary Gambling Hollis DENNING. Sarah was born November 10, 1852 and died February 18, 1893.
  2. Mary Ann SARVER , born March 22, 1830; married Oliver Porter BUTLER on November 8, 1848 in Fountain Head. Mary Ann died August 1 1873, and was buried in the Old Fountain Head Cemetery. Oliver BUTLER was born July 28, 1818 and died March 2, 1885. Oliver Butler was the son of Aaron BUTLER and Rosannah BRACKIN.
  3. Martha Elizabeth SARVER, born November 20, 1832; married James W. WICKWARE on January 15, 1851 in Sumner County. Martha died August 1, 1873.
  4. William Henry SARVER, born March 1, 1835; married Fanny S. GAINES on August 6, 1857 in Logan Co., KY. William died on October 30, 1904 and was buried in the Gant Cemetery, Todd Co., KY. Fanny was born in 1837 and died in 1913.
  5. George Washington Lafayette SARVER, born 1836; married (1) unknown, (2) Mrs. F. Adelina BRAZIER on July 14, 1886 in Sumner Co. George died on July 27, 1909.
  6. Caroline Matilda SARVER, born August 6, 1840; married William SWAN on October 23, 1867. Caroline died February 5, 1922 in Franklin, KY. William was born July 19, 1838 and died November 1, 1903.
