Lee Perdue was the third child born to Daniel and Prudence Ward Perdue originally of Franklin County, Virginia. Daniel was the son of Meshack Perdue and Eleanor Dillion. Lee was born around 1811 in Franklin County, Virginia, as a young boy he left Franklin County, Virginia with his mother ,father, brothers, and sisters and traveled through the Cumberland Gap to Sumner County, Tennessee arriving around 1815.

His father, who had served with Captain William Pepper's company during the War of 1812 (see Daniel Perdue Family), bought land on the east side of the west fork of Drakes Creek of the Barren River. Daniel's land holdings grew and he became one of the largest land holders in early Sumner County. Lee along with his brothers and sisters did chores on the plantation In 1828, his mother died and this was hard on the children.

The Wyatt family had moved into the community by this time and the Perdue and Wyatt families became well acquainted. Lee's father, Daniel Perdue remarried on the 26th of January , 1832 to Harriet Wyatt. Lee met Mary (Polly) Wyatt around 1830 and on 30 May 1833 , Lee and Mary were married. Mary (Polly) Wyatt was born on the 28 March, 1811 in Orange County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Wyatt and James King. Mary's mother , Elizabeth, would later marry Ruben Benson in Orange County, North Carolina around 1815. Mary went to work as an apprentice to Ruben Benson , when she married Lee she used the name Benson.

In the 1840 census of Sumner County, for the first and only time, Lee is listed as Leroy Perdue. Lee builds his home out of logs for his family. He lived on property once owned by John Hill on the Franklin Road. He later traded for some property near the area around the present Boiling Springs.Very near the current Boiling Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church where Lee and Mary were members. On the third day of November , 1851, Daniel gives Lee 106 acres of land for the love and affection I have towards my son. (Sumner County Deed Book 25p. 345) Lee bought other acreage and farmed ,growing tobacco and other crops. In 1857 , Lee's father Daniel died.

Lee continued to farm, but the Civil War was rapidly approaching. Many in the area were worried about the future. One great granddaughter said that Lee loaded up his family and went north of Sumner County into Kentucky and southern Illinois until the war was over. One of his sons, William Edgar joined the Confederate army. (see William E. W. Perdue bio.)

After the war, Lee's farm was suffering. Times were hard all over Sumner County. His children gradually marry and move to their own homes. Two sons move to Arkansas and two sons stay in Sumner County. William Edgar died in 1867. Two of his daughters stay and help their mother who is in bad health. Around 1885, Mary Wyatt Benson Perdue dies and is buried in Boiling Springs cemetery. Lee's two daughters, Canzada Jane and Elizabeth Ellen look after their father in his declining years. On November 1, 1889 Lee Perdue dies. (see Lee Perdue will on Will page) Lee leaves his land to his two daughters who had taken care of his wife and himself . W.M. BENSON is appointed executor of his estate. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
