Daniel Perdue was born in Franklin Co., Virginia on the 1st of January 1786 to Meshack Perdue and Eleanor Dillon. At the time, the family was living on land located on the south side of the Blackwater River, part of a 380 acre tract purchased in 1773 by James Dillon, Daniel's maternal grandfather.

While living in Virginia, Daniel used Junior to distinguish himself from the elder Daniel Perdue believed to have been his Uncle. Daniel Perdue Jr. married to Prudence Ward 26th of January 1804 in Franklin Co., Virginia. Daniel was eighteen and Prudence sixteen years old. She was the daughter of Daniel and Betsey Ward. Daniel Ward contributed to the Revolution and has been established as a patriot.....he was born 4th May 1739 and died in Franklin Co.Virginia the 6th February 1826....his ancestry goes back to Seth Ward who was in Henrico Co., Virginia before 1632.

Before Daniel Perdue left Virginia his father gave him two negro men, a negro woman and her child. In August of 1815, Daniel was in Sumner County, Tennessee where he purchased a tract of land consisting of 174 acres situated on the east side of the west fork of Drakes Creek off the Barren River. Daniel prospered and his land holdings reached 1500 acres. He built a large log home with chimneys made of bricks from his farm. He built a distillery of rocks and logs on the spring branch along with a grist mill situated between the distillery and the house. A windless brought water from the spring to the house. Daniel acted as a Justice of the Peace in Sumner County and was a trustee of Pleasant Grove Female Academy in 1847.

Prudence Ward Perdue died in 1828, she was forty years old and had given birth to a child which might have contributed to her death. She is buried in the family cemetery on Daniel's farm.

Daniel remarried the 26th of January 1832 to Harriet Wyatt the daughter of Joshua Wyatt and Susannah King. Daniel was forty-six and Harriet nineteen years old.

On the 10th of July 1856, Daniel wrote and signed a lengthy Will providing for all 18 children by his two wives. He died the 26th of January 1857 which was the day and month of his marriage to both wives and the 25th Anniversary of his marriage to second wife Harriet Wyatt. He had just turned seventy. A codicil to his Will signed with "his mark" and dated the 20th of December 1856 was presented to the court by his son Daniel Green Perdue. According to the codicil, $500.00 had come into Daniel's hands after the Will was written and this money was to be divided among the children of his first wife and the remainder divided equally among the children of his present wife. This codicil was contested by Harriet and subsequently set aside in her favor. A lawsuit filed in 1857 (Eli Perdue vs. Green Perdue) suggests Daniel Green Perdue had forged the codicil.

Daniel Perdue is buried between his two wives on his farm near present day Sengtown, Tennessee. Sengtown was once Perdue, Tennessee and in 1860 consisted of a store and post office. Harriet Wyatt Perdue died the 9th of July 1889.
