Bright Family of TN

Note: I found this information in handwritten notes on a 16"x16" green (appears to be some form of construction paper) in papers of my cousin's estate. John R. Bright, Jr. of Nashville. He was a bachelor and the last of his branch of the Bright family. No brothers or sisters. His mother was a Jordan and my mother's sister. I am not sure who the original author was.

James Bright from Bottetourt Co. Virginia

My Grand Father's name was James, he was from Bottetourt Co. Va. and moved to land settled in Garrard Co. Ky. near Lancaster, his wife's maiden name was Margaret Dinges they had 4 sons and 3 daughters.

John the eldest who lived and died in Mercer County 4 miles of Harrodsburg

James the 2nd child moved to Nashville, Tenn. in 1803 and engaged with a relative, W. P. Anderson in surveying 2 or 3 years and then settled at Fayetteville in Lincoln Co. Tenn. about 1807, and there continued to reside until the 24th of Feb. 1871 when at the age of 99 years he died.

Thomas the 3rd son, lived and died on Dix River, Garrard Co. Ky.

William the 4th son died a comparatively young man at Fayetteville, Tenn.

Margaret the oldest daughter married a man by the name of Carvin who moved to Fayetteville and raised a large family of children the most of whom are dead, her husband died in 1833, she removed to Canton, Miss. and if still living is yet in Miss.

The 2nd daughter also married a man by the name of Amos Yentis, they raised a family who still live in Mercer Co. and Garrard Co. and Lincoln Co. Ky.

My Great Grandfather, John Morgan had seven sons, John, Charles, Joseph, Isaac, James, William and Armsted. Charles and Armstead were killed by the Indians and raised no families.

Armstead was killed near Crab Orchard and Charles in Sumner County. Joseph married a lady in Kentucky by the name of Proctor, lived in Sumner Co., Tenn. A short time then removed to Shelby Co. Ala. Lived and died at Harpersville, Ala. One daughter married a Harper. (Harpersville Ala) One daughter married a Jennings - Hiram married a Miss Mardis, he was a fine scholar - lawyer-trace of him lost. Isaac fleshy & fine looking lived a while in Clarksville, Tenn. Moved to and died in Mississippi near Cotton Gin leaving children. James lived and died in Sumner County, Tenn. leaving a daughter. William moved to Louisina and is said to have married a very rich widow - nothing else known of him - except a fine looking man and left a family. (penciled note - leftout. Great Grandfather also left 4 daughters, Charity, Mary, Alcey, & Susan.

Charity married a man by the name of Bradley Gamble, Sumner Co. Tenn. lived and died there, raising a large family. Mary married twice - her cousin - Morgan & had two children -Susan & Armstead H. Morgan. Susan married Elijah Fike had children and died there (penciled in Sumner Co.) - Armistead moved to Mississippi and died leaving a large family of children. She also married Jno. Fike by whom she had two children, James Morgan Fike, now living in Perry County, Ala. at Fike's Ferry Etawba River and Poly who married Davidson Colville of Dallas County, Ala. He was formally from McMinville, Tenn. removed to Texas & died leaving 5 children. She & family removed to Arkansas. One child died, one daughter moved to California, having married - man unknown. Another daughter married in Arkansas doing well. One son when a youth started with others with a drove of cattle to California & was killed by the Mormons near Salt Lake City. Youngest son a cripple from white swelling living with his mother in Ark. Alcey married Harry Gamble brother of James lived in Robertson Co. Tenn. both dead leaving a family of children - 4 sons & 3 dauthters. Polly & Susan died young, Sally married a man by the name of Joel Moore, Robertson Co. Tenn. Wm moved to Texas, John married and lived in Robertson Co. Tenn. Ben married three times and lived in Robertson Co. Tenn., Thos. died young. Susan Morgan married Lewis Powers, lived in Tenn. on Duck River. He was a Maj in the Battle of New Orleans.

My Great Grandfather Morgan was a cousin to Gen. Daniel Morgan of the Revolution & was a Captain in the Revolution. He was killed by Indians in Sumner Co. Tenn. at Morgan's Station. My Grandfather, John Morgan was wounded by Indians in Sumner Co. Tenn.

Phoebe Morgan, Sister of my Grandfather Jno. Morgan (omitted in order) married Lonard West-lived in Logan Co. Ky., had 3 sons and two daughters, sons - Fielding, Amos & William all living in Ky. Amos married a sister of Washburn, M.C. (member of congress) from Ill., Polly married a man by the name of James Herndon, Logan Co. Ky. (penciled in from Charles Thomas Bright's Book)

Out to wash 2 pr. cotton sox, 1 checked Marsailes Coat, 1 silk shirt, 1 army flannel shirt, 1 pr. drawers, 3 shirt collars, 1 cotton pocket hkf.

April 7, 1862. Dear Ellen Cage -
Mr. Branham takes his nephew Mr. Head, who was wounded yesterday to a quiet place for treatment, be kind to him, he is a favorite of mine. You will lern everything from Mr. Branham. I will write soon.

Col. A. S. Fulton, Mars, Bibb Co. Ala. 25 miles from Montivallo & 20 mis. from Ashby Depot.
Corp. Cahawba at Pratts Ferry.
H. D. Malone, Sargt Co. G. 10 Texas . Buridd Marietta, Ga. No. 317 City burying ground (South of town and adjoining Soldiers burying ground) in the private ground of Mrs. Tucker near middle cemetry. Killed 24th Jan. 1864.
Col. John S. Fulton was killed before Petersburg Va. about 1st July 64. was buried at Hollywood Masonic Cemetary. (Deposited in a vault, Richmond Va. He was struck by the fragment of a shell in the eye.

Capt. John F. Davis, Gadsen Ala. Col. John E. Toole, Montgomery, Ala.

2nd Tennessee Regiment.
Reorganized at Corinth, Mississippi on the third day of April 1862, and left the fourth for the Tennessee River where we arrived on the morning of the fifth. (not Dr. C. T. Bright's handwriting, probably Jno. Branham)

Capt. J. F. Drake, Egypt Station Mobile & Ohio R.R., Monroe Co. Miss - 4 miles from Egypt Station, 7 north of Aberdeen - East of the R. R. - Oakalona and Aberdeen dirt road, living on the Wharton place.
