This Indenture made this twentieth day of April one thousand eight hundred and four,
between thomas Hickman of Davidson County of the one part and William Bruce of Sumner
County,State of Tennessee of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Hickman for and
in consideration of the sum of Seventy Dollars to him in hand paid by the
said Bruce through the hands of William ________ and Henry Bradford the receipt of which
is hereby acknowledged, hath given, granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents do
give, grant, bargain and sell to the said William Bruce, his heirs and assigns a certain tract or piece
of land containing by estimation twenty one acres be the same more or less being part of a tract
of seventy acres granted originally to Daniel James by patent bearing date February the
twentieth one thousand seven hundred & ninety five, lying in Sumner County on the waters of
Drakes creek joining the North boundary of William Montgomery preemption which tract of
twenty one acres bounded as follows: Beginning at a stake ninety seven poles from the South-east
corner in the East boundary of original survey, thence North forty two poles to a stake, thence
West eighty-one poles to a stake on a line originally George Watkins now Thomas Joiner (?),
South forty two poles to a stake, then East eighty-one poles to the beginning to have and to hold
the said tract of land with all the appertinances there unto belonging to the said William Bruce
his heirs and asssigns forever and the said Thomas Hickman and his heirs the said tract of land
with all its appurtanances to the said William Bruce heirs and assigns against the claim or claims
of
all and any person or persons whosoever will for ever warrant and defend. In testimony whereof
the said Thomas Hickman hath hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal the day and
year first above written.
