This indenture made this fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred Ninety Six Between ANDREW JACKSON of the County of Davidson State of Tennessee of the one part and WILLIAM MARTIN of the County of Penelton State of South Carolina of the other part Witnesseth that the said ANDREW JACKSON for in consideration of the sum of six Hundred & forty dollars to him in hand paid by the said WILLIAM before the sealing and delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof is Hereby acknoledged have Given Granted Bargained & sold & by these presents do Give Grant bargain sell, alienenfeoff convey Confirm unto the said WILLIAM MARTIN his hiers assigness forever a certain tract or parcel of Land Containing eight Hundred forty acres, situate lying being in the county of Sumner in the state of Tennessee on the middle fork of Drackes Creek the waters of Barron River it being part of a thousand acre tract Grants by the State of North Carolina to JOHN RICE ABRAHAM RASTION & ELISHA RICE assignees to the Hiers of DOMINA DOMINUS by patent baring date at Kingston the thirteenth day of June in the year one thousand seven hundred eighty Seven and No. 299 which thousand acre tract is Butted and Bounded as follows Begining at white oak poplar, the north west corner of a Six Hundred & forty acre survey of BENJAMIN SHEPERDS Running South three hundred twenty poles to a black walnutt thence west five hundred poles to a read oak thence North three Hundred and twenty poles to a Stake thence East five Hundred poles to the Begining one Hundred Sixty acres of said tract having been previously sold Pyitle (?) to be Run as follows that is to say to begin at the Begining mentioned in the patent runing South so far as will include one hundred Sixty acres Extending the west line the lenth of the Survey which is five hundred poles otherwise to begin a the Begining Run west to the line tree of the North boundary line & then South West or soouth and east at the option of the sd PYRTLE (?) as will include one Hundred 7 Sixty acres, in the north west or north east Corner of said Survay after deducting the one Hundred Sixty acres, as above mentioned, for the use and benefit of the siad PYRTLE (?) then it is the true intent of these presents that the balance of eight hundred forty acres be conveyed from the said ANDREW to the said WILLIAM his hiers and assignees forever To Have & to Hold the bove granted premises with the apurtenances thereto Belonging with all singular its benefit amoluments thereout and therefrom arising unto the said WILLIAM MARTIN his hiers assignees to their only use forever the said ANDREW JACKSON for himself his hiers Executors administrators do hereby Covenent Grant & agree to and with the WILLIAM MARTIN his hiers & assignees him & them he & they the land & premices hereby Intended to be conveyed will warent and forever defend against the Claim or claims all and every parson or parsons lagaly Claiming the same  In Witness I have hereunto set my Hand and affixed my Seal the Day and year above written
