This Indenture Made this ninth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and four, Between Richard Cope of the State of Tennessee and County of Sumner of the one part, and James Roney of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars in hand to him paid before the signing & sealing of these presents, the receipt of which is here by fully acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain grant sell alien and enfeoff convey and confirm unto the said James Roney his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Sumner & State aforesaid containing two hundred and fifteen acres, it being part of a tract of land which said Cope bought of Capt. Jas. Custer of Iredid County lying and being on the waters of Drake’s Creek a branch of Big Barren river, Beginning at a black oak north west corner to a tract of land surveyed for Ambrose Maulden, running north two hundred and forty poles to a hickory, thence East One hundred and forty three poles to a white oak, thence south two hundred and forty poles to a hickory, thence West one hundred & forty three poles to the beginning, To have and to hold the aforesaid tract & parcel of land above specified and described with all and singular the privileges and benefits and ad//taes appertaining to a fee simple Estate and the said Richard Cope doth forever warrant and defend to the said James Roney the said land and to his heirs the said land free from any claims or demand from the said Richard Cope or any of his heirs or assigns or any person claiming from by or under them or any of them forever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of January in the year of our Lord 1804.
