His medals include the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal World War II, the Bronze Star Medal and three bronze stars. He was sent back to the United States and two months later was called back to front line duty to serve on Gen. Douglas MacArthur's staff in the Philippines. His job under MacArthur was to plan the transport/logistics for the invasion of Japan. This was obviated by then-President Harry Truman's decision to drop the A-bomb.
