ADDAIR, JAMES LUNDY Rev. Reverend James Lundy Addair (Preacher Jim), 85, of 224 Ramey Road, Bristol, Tenn., formerly of Beartown, W.Va., went to meet his Savior Sunday, May 12, 2002, at his residence. Reverend Addair was born Jan. 28, 1917, to John H. and Nannie Smith Addair. He was a retired minister of the Church of the Living God and a retired coal miner. He had preached the precious word of God for more than 50 years and had pastored many churches in the area. He was known for his love and devotion to God and won many souls for the kingdom in his ministry. He attended Shelby Street Church of God. His daughter, Lori Cross-Hobson and husband Terry survive him, along with three sons and daughters-in-law, James Stanley and Gin Addair, North Tazewell, Va., John Stephen and Patsy Addair of Bradshaw, W.Va., and Carl Thomas and Judy Addair of Bristol, Tenn. Brother, Oliver (Dobb) Addair of Iaeger, W.Va., also survives. Thirteen grandchildren, Jay Addair, Shonna Addair Whittaker, Stephen Addair, Jeanna Addair Cook, Bobby Addair, Tommy Addair, Jamie Addair, Annie Addair Lester, Tina Cross Greer, Dustin Cross, Larry Duncan Jr., Chase Hobson and Carmen Hobson Roberts also survive. He also had 17 great-grandchildren surviving him. Preacher Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tom, Ed and Ernie Addair; four sisters, Audrey Addair Porter, Hattie Addair Lowe, Kathern Addair Varady and Janet Addair Riffe; and two grandsons, Tony Addair and Billy Joe Cross. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 Tuesday evening, May 14, 2002, at Castle Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held after visitation. The body will be taken to his home church in Garland, W.Va., on Wednesday, May 25, 2002, and the funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday there with burial to be in Viers Cemetery in Bradshaw. A special friend, Snowey Hobdson, also survives. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Fanning Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral and burial. BEIDLEMAN, MARION ELIZABETH BOOHER SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -- Marion Elizabeth Booher Beidleman, 90, a longtime resident of the Emmett Community, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House. She was the daughter of the late Cornilius and Marion Warren Booher. She was a retired teacher with the Sullivan County School System with over 37 years of service, a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and E.T.S.U., a member of T.E.A. and N.E.A. and a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair Beidleman; a son, Joseph Beidleman; and a sister, Lucy Wood. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and James C. Stergios II, Bristol, Va., sons and daughter-in-law, James C. and Sharon Beidleman, Benton, Miss., and Wynn Beidleman, Bristol, Tenn.; nephew, John W. Wood Jr., Bristol, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Norma Beidleman, Blountville; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andrew Spence officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. BELLAMY, CARLOS Carlos Bellamy of Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was a native of Bristol and the son of the late William Claude and Beulah Bellamy. He graduated from Bristol Virginia High School and Emory & Henry College, where he was a member of Beta Lambda Zeta fraternity. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was retired from Raytheon Co. Carlos was a member of the Bristol Virginia Senior Show Choir, was on the board of the Bristol Cancer Association and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of almost 45 years, Jane Reynolds Bellamy; three much-loved children, Steve Bellamy of Bristol, Tim Bellamy of San Francisco and Kristin Flint of Chattanooga; a special daughter-in-law, Anne Helmstadter; two wonderful grandchildren, Rachel and Spencer Ward, who gave him so much pleasure, and a third grandchild expected in June; one sister, Rosemary Leonard; and a special friend from childhood, Tom Tollie, both of Bristol. Another special friend, Rev. Henry Holt preceded him in death last month. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. David St. Clair officiating and Rev. Karen Albers assisting. BOWERS, RUTH JOHNSON "Toots" Mrs. Ruth Johnson "Toots" Bowers, 66, of 1116 Bristol Caverns Highway, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, April 23, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House. She was a native of Sullivan County, and a daughter of the late Hurst and Sarah Rogers Johnson. She was a retired employee of Smith-Kline Beecham and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, Fred Bowers; and daughter and son-in-law Gail and Jerry Miller of Bristol, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Rowlett and Rev. Howard Campbell officiating. BOWMAN, ARLIE RAY PINEY FLATS -- Arlie Ray Bowman, 33, of 345 Spangler Road Lot 7 passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tenn. Born Oct. 2, 1969, in Sullivan County, a son of William R. Bowman of Blountville and the late Linda Williams Bowman, he has resided in this area all of his life. Mr. Bowman was a lighting technician working with K-VA-T Food Stores. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Bowman was a fireman serving with the Sullivan County Volunteer Fire Department. He will be remembered as a loving husband, son and brother who loved fishing, the Volunteer Fire Department and his work. Mr. Bowman is survived by his wife of four years, Sherry Gibson Bowman of the home; his father, William R. Bowman Sr. of Blountville; one sister, Teresa Whitaker of Bristol, Tenn.; two brothers, William R. Bowman Jr. and wife, Freda, of Blountville and Brian Keith Bowman of Blountville; three nieces; one nephew; and one great-nephew. Mrs. Brown was a native of Bristol, a very loyal member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she was the director of the women's choir, and an usher. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and a teacher in the Headstart program for more than 22 years. CARRIER, JEAN F. Jean F. Carrier, 85, of Edgemont Towers, Bristol, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. She was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Harry and Mary Fehrenberg. A housewife, she lived in Bristol most of her life. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lee (Pete) Carrier Sr. Survivors include one son, E.L. (Buddy) Carrier Jr. of Abingdon; two daughters, Jean Blankenbecler and Delma Slagle, both of Bristol, Tenn.; and a sister, Harriet Wilson of Kingwood, Texas. Also surviving are six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one expected great-grandchild. CHASE, WALTER BUCK Walter Buck Chase, 52, of 133 Spring Valley Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Walter S. and Virginia Buck Chase. He was employed by Raytheon as a senior planner. He was a member of Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge 444. Survivors include his wife, Susan Marilyn Law Chase; three sons, Shaun Michael Chase of New York, Justin Law Chase of Bluff City and Joshua Allen Chase of Bristol, Tenn.; one grandson, Logan McKenzie Chase; and sister, Joann Easton of Bangor, Maine. CHURCH, JERRY C. Jerry C. Church, 55, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home. He was a son of the late J.C. and Annis Church of Bristol, Va., a member of Fleenor's Memorial Church and a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. COUNTS, FRANCES MAE Mrs. Frances Mae Counts, 68, died Friday in Wellmont Hospice House. She was a native of Washington County. She was the widow of the late Lee Edward Counts and the daughter of the late Susie Kathleen Rosenbaum. She was a member of Northfolk Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. CRABTREE, ARTHUR "ART" Arthur "Art" Crabtree, 82, of Avoca Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at home. Born in Tompkinsville, Ky., he had resided in the Tri-Cities area for a number of years. He had worked as an auditor at several motels, hotels and resort areas throughout the Southeast, including the Tri-Cities. Mr. Crabtree was a Protestant. His wife, Janette Danielson Crabtree; a brother, Grover Crabtree; and his parents, Fred and Oline Kidwell Crabtree, preceded him in death. CRINER, PEGGY RUTH Peggy Ruth Criner, 81, a long-time resident of Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, May 27, following a long illness at Spring Meadows Health Care Center in Clarksville, Tenn. Peggy was the widow of Dallas A. Criner, also a long-time resident of Bristol, who worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Mrs. Criner was the daughter of the late George Lipps and Mary Dean of Wise. After moving to Bristol she worked as a dorm mother at Virginia Intermont College and was a sitter for many different children. She attended James Madison Teaching College in Harrisonburg, Va. Inus had been very active in the Bristol community, a devoted Christian and an active member of State Street United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was an avid reader and had read practically every book in the Bristol Public Library. She had been active in garden clubs and the Gibbon History Club in Bristol. FULLER, CUBA CATHERINE RATCLIFFE KINGSPORT -- Cuba Catherine Ratcliffe Fuller, 103, of 1445 Bridwell St., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at 647 Dora St., Kingsport, the residence of her daughters, Edna Hankins and Dalmyra Boardwine, with whom she had resided for the last several years of her life. Ms. Fuller was born Nov. 21, 1898, in Honaker, a daughter of the late Cecil C. and Ritta Jessee Ratcliffe. She was married to Ellis Larkin Fuller in 1914, until his passing in 1970. She moved to Kingsport in 1937, with three sons and three daughters. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons and one daughter. They were Dallas, Elwood and Ellis Newlyn Fuller and Lucille Shaw. She was a charter member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, where she was the oldest and one of the first members. She is survived by her daughters, Edna Hankins an Dalmyra Boardwine of Kingsport. Ms. Fuller was the grandmother of 14 grandchildren. HOOVER, JUNE WALDRUPE June Waldrupe Hoover, 79, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, in Select Specialty Hospital at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Danville, Ky., a daughter of the late Archie Graham Waldrupe and Eunice Stephens Waldrupe, and was the widow of Emmett M. Hoover. She was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, where she achieved the rank of seaman first class. JONES, WILFORD H. "Sonny" Wilford H. "Sonny" Jones, 63, of Cambridge House, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, following an extended illness. A native of Bluff City, he was the son of the late Carl Walter Jones and the late Norma Jean Stidham. Mr. Jones was an Army veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Claris Chandler and a brother, Stanley Jones Chapman. Survivors include six sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Bill Bass of Bristol, Tenn., Lois and David Styche of Weston, Fla., Barbara and Clinton Whelchel of Rockford, Ill., Yvonne and Jim Davis of Rockford, Linda Wilson and Tim of Crestview, Fla., and Sylvia and Norman Halfacre of Sunrise, Fla.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Joyce Jones of Bristol, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, from the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City with Rev. Joe Blankenship officiating. KAYWOOD, ANNA MAE PINEY FLATS – Anna Mae Kaywood, 71, of 623 Haw Ridge Road, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Lakebridge Health Care, Johnson City, following a lengthy illness. A native of Sullivan County, she was a daughter of the late Charles David and Mary Elizabeth Blalock Smith. She was a member of Pilgrims Baptist Church, Piney Flats. She was preceded in death by one sister; two brothers; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. LEONARD, MARY MOORMAN Mary Moorman Leonard, 92, of 2216 Edgemont Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bristol, Va., a daughter of the late Julian P. and Minnie Lee Timmons Moorman, and was the widow of J.C. Leonard Jr. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and Duke University and was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. She was retired from the Bristol Tennessee School System and had volunteered as a Pink Lady at Bristol Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Blue Stocking Club, the D.A.R. and was an avid Duke University supporter. She was an active member and local sponsor of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was born in Coeburn, Va., a daughter of the late James H. and Matilda Fuller Ramey, and had lived most of her life in Bristol. She attended Emory & Henry College and the University of Tennessee. She worked alongside her husband in the family printing business for many years and was a very devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edgar D. MEEK, ROBERT T. Sr. Robert T. Meek Sr., 86, former resident of Hemlock Road, Bristol, Tenn., passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002. He had been a resident of Bristol for 43 years. He was born in Kosciusko, Miss., in 1916, and attended Delta State College. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II. He served as an Army officer of the 31st Dixie Division and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a 50-year member and past commander of the American Legion. He was a member of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for many years. His professional career as a pharmaceutical representative spanned 47 years. MILLER, A. R. "GUS" A. R. "Gus" Miller, 78, passed away May 26, 2002, at Madison House Assisted Living Center. He was born in Scott County, Va., and served in the European Theater during World War II. He had lived on Adaline Street in the Bloomingdale Community for over 50 years. Gus was a retired carpenter and a life member of the Bloomingdale Ruritan Club, where he received several awards including "Man of the Year." Some of Mr. Moser's accomplishments and awards are as follows: 1945 completion of Sperry Gyro-Scope Co., Inc., while in the U.S. Air Force; 1954 president of Worthmore Gold Stamp Co.; 1955 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Awards Citation for Outstanding Cooperation rendered the Youth Activities Program sponsored by Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975; president Sav Mor Food Group; 1957 president Dale Carnegie Courses; 1962 president of the Young Executives Division of the U.S. Wholesale Grocery Association; president Jones Wholesale Co., Inc.; 1963 president of J&M Realty Co.; 1967 president of Tennessee State Wholesale Grocers Association; president of Five States Wholesale Grocers Association; and 1971 served as chairman of YMCA Membership Committee. He was elected to a three-year term on Washington County Board of Supervisors; 1989 Republican Presidential Task Force Life Member Registry validated by President Ronald Regan; 1991 Congressional Certificate for commitment to Armed Forces in Persian Gulf; 1993 appointed to the Advisory Board of Directors of American Tobacco Company, Inc.; and 1993 honored member of Who's Who Worldwide of Global Business Leaders. He was the son of the late Charles Wesley Odum and Lily (Crigger) Odum. He was retired from Bristol Virginia Sheriff's Department with 13 years of service. PARKER, MARY KATHRYN AUSTIN, Colo. -- Mary Kathryn Parker, 77, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta, Colo. She was born March 30, 1925, in Anthon, Iowa, to the late Charles and Mary Bennett Fuller. She married Thomas McKenzie Parker on Oct. 15, 1945, in Oakland, Calif., and they raised six children together. In life Mary was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of Mount Gilead Bethel Church in Eckert, Colo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; a sister, Clarise Lyons; and a brother, Frederick Fuller. Survivors include six sons, Charles Thomas Parker and wife, Joann, of Keokee, Va., William Richard Parker and wife, Olagay, of Lebanon, Walter Frank Parker and wife, Barbara, of Lebanon, Kenneth Robert Parker and wife, Nancy, of San Lorenzo, Calif., Timothy Carl Parker and wife, Gloria, of Gray, Tenn., and Frederick Michael Parker of Grand Junction, Colo.; five brothers, Harold Fuller and wife, Thora, of Austin, Colo., Paul Fuller and wife, Catherine, of Austin, Glenn Fuller and wife, Violet, of Eckert, Arthur Fuller and wife, Sharon, of Austin and Ardo Fuller and wife, Doris, of Castro Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. PARKER, TINY RUTH WATTS BLUFF CITY -- Tiny Ruth Watts Parker, 74, went to be with the Lord May 23, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Paul and Nellie Deaton Rogers, in Fairview Community near Jonesborough. Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in the Bluff City area. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Parker was the widow of Charles I. Parker and was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Watts; a sister, Margie Stiger; and three brothers, Dewey, Billy and Roy "Jr." Watts. Survivors include three sons and spouses, Ernie and Robin Watts, Eddie and Elizabeth Watts and Charles and Carmen Parker; four daughters and spouses, JoAnn and Charles Owens, Barbara Richards, Patty Stipes, Charlotte and Jerry Hale and Alice and William Inman; a sister, Mary Dickson; a brother, Jessee Rogers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. POWERS, HUGH WINFIELD II Hugh Winfield Powers II of Bristol, Tenn., passed away Thursday, May 16, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was associated with Mitchell Powers Hardware for over 42 years, then he founded Powers Industrial Hardware in 1983. Mr. Powers was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol, Tenn. Mr. Powers was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II, and a member of First Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Edwin Reeder Powers and Gordon Rush Powers. He was preceded in death by one son, Edwin James Powers; one brother, Edwin Reeder Powers Jr.; and one sister, Ruth Addington Powers Davis. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joelma Tush Powers; one daughter, Faith Sidney Powers of Bristol, Tenn.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh Winfield Powers III and wife, Christine, Joel Scott Powers and wife, Catherine, and Mitchell Andrew Powers and wife, Cheryl, all of Bristol, Tenn., and David Phillip Powers and wife, Teresa, of Powell, Tenn.; one sister, Dorothy Powers Wright of Bristol, Va.; two brothers, David Alexander Powers of New York City and Benjamin Rush Powers of Bristol, Tenn.
