ABEL, EDITH CHRISTINE Edith Christine Abel, 72, of Bristol, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord March 25, 2002, after a short illness. She was a housewife and a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Garnett C. Abel; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Linda Abel of Bristol, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Mike Currington of Bristol, Tenn.; grandsons Daniel and Scotty Abel of Bristol, Tenn.; brothers Jack and Paul Bebber of Bristol, Tenn.; sisters Sue Bebber of Bristol, Tenn., and Joanne Shull of Mountain City, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. ANDERSON, SAMUEL K. Samuel K. Anderson Jr., 77, of 312 Williams Lane, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at home. He was born in Virginia, a son of the late Samuel and Patty Gardner Anderson, and had lived in Bristol since 1963. He was a U.S. Marines veteran of World War II and attended Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church. He was the owner of Anderson Auto Repair. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cornett Anderson; a daughter, Karen Jacobs of Bluff City; a son, Robert Lynn Anderson of Woodstock, Ga.; four sisters, Betty Jo Kilgore of Norton, Peggy Kilgore of Wise, Myrtle Fleenor of Louisville, Ky., and Lillian Love of Waco, Texas; four grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Anderson and Page Anderson Owens, both of Marietta, Ga., Jessica Jacobs of Bristol, Va., and Cody Anderson of Abingdon; a special friend, Lewis Combs; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 o'clock Thursday evening in the chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Brown officiating. The committal service will be conducted at 11 o'clock Friday morning in Glenwood Cemetery. ARROWOOD, NANCY FRAZIER JOHNSON CITY -- Nancy Frazier Arrowood, 62, of 1317 Huffine Road died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at home. She was a native of Sullivan County and a daughter of Frankie Wilson Frazier and the late B.H. Frazier. Survivors include her husband, James Arrowood of Johnson City; stepsons, Ronnie Arrowood of Asheville, NC, and Bruce Arrowood of Atlanta; mother, Frankie Wilson Frazier of Bristol, Tenn.; and sisters Peggy Smith of Charlotte, NC, Betty Owens of Charlotte and Carol J. BAILEY, ROYDELL C. Roydell C. Bailey, 71, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Paris, Tenn., grew up in Marianna, Ark., and had lived in Bristol for 50 years. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Winnie Bounds Caldwell, and the widow of James R. Bailey. She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She is survived by a son, Cliff Bailey, and his wife, Lisa, of Bristol, Tenn.; two daughters, Ruth Browning and her husband, Louis, and Jane Maddox and her husband, Danny, all of Knoxville; and three grandchildren, Laura, Hannah and Neil. The funeral service will be conducted at noon Monday at the graveside in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Paul Hamilton Fuller IV officiating. Burial will follow. BALL, RAY JUNIOR Ray Junior Ball, 80, of Bristol, Va., went home to be with his Lord, Friday, March 15, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House. He was a native of Abingdon and son of the late William Morgan Ball and Sarah Cordilia Nash. He owned and operated Ray’s Trading Post, was a member of Belle Meadows Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Gospel Gordonaires and was instrumental in the organization of Goodson-Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department in 1967. He is survived by his wife, Connie Bennett Ball; sons and daughters-in-law, Emmitt R. and Rosemary Ball, Richard H. and Pat Ball, Ronnie and Jackie Ball and Larry and Renauta Ball, all of Bristol, Va.; uncle, the Rev. BLANTON, MICHAEL THOMAS Michael Thomas Blanton, 43, of Meadowview Road, Lot 13, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He had lived his life in the Bristol area and was the son of the late Ardie H. and Phyllis Blanton. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Angela Blanton; children Judy Blanton and Missy Blanton; stepchildren Earl and Danielle; granddaughter Kayla; sisters Diane Hilliard, Teressa Johnson and Karen Keller; brothers Ardie H. BLEDSOE, JIMMY Jimmy Bledsoe, 45, of 2111 Highway 126, Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Friday, March 29, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. Mr. Bledsoe was born in Lee County, Va., Aug. 25, 1956, moved to Bristol with his family in 1961 and resided in Bristol throughout his life. Mr. Bledsoe graduated from Central High School in 1974, and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in music education. Mr. Bledsoe was a substitute teacher in Sullivan County and taught private music lessons. He was an employee of Bell South. He was an avid musician and his favorite hobby was tennis, where he excelled. Survivors include his parents, James and Reba Bledsoe of Bristol, Tenn.; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Tracy Bledsoe of Blountville; nephew, Aaron Bledsoe of Blountville; maternal grandmother, Mildred Mize of Bluff City; and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd Crusenberry officiating and the eulogy will be presented by friend Lyndon Leonard. BLEVINS, FLOSSIE GENEVA COMBS CHILHOWIE -- Flossie Geneva Combs Blevins, 74, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. Mrs. Blevins was born May 30, 1927, in Smyth County to the late Emery Austin and Virginia Loretta Richardson Combs and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: her husband, Charles H. Blevins; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Charles E. BLEVINS, MARK STEPHEN ABINGDON -- Mr. Mark Stephen Blevins, 40, died on Friday morning, March 15, 2002. Mark began getting his aviation career off the ground at age 16 and his lifelong passion has always been to fly. Mark was a commercial pilot who had flown for several aviation firms in Northeast Ohio. He is survived by his mother, Betty Yates Blevins, Bristol, Tenn.; his loving fiancee, Heather Smoke, Cleveland; his brother, James Green Blevins and wife Brietta, and daughters, Emily and Rebecca, of Slidell, La.; and his sister, Jacqueline B. Johnson, and husband Brett J. and daughter, Audrey, of Lake Bluff, Ill. Mark was preceded in death by his father, James Green Blevins Sr., and an infant sister, Donna Lynn Blevins. BOLLING, ELMER G. WISE -- Elmer G. Bolling, 86, passed away Friday, March 22, 2002, at Norton Community Hospital, Norton. He was a retired coal miner, former partner of Double B Coal Co., a Kentucky Colonel and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Creed and Pearlie Bolling; three sons, Rudy Bolling, Gary Bolling and Gregory Bolling; and one daughter, Patricia Bolling. Surviving are his wife, Genevieve Bolling of Wise; six sons, Norris Bolling, Glen Bolling, Joe Bolling and Randy Bolling, all of Wise, Larry Bolling of Raymond, Wash., and Jeff Bolling of Whitesburg, Ky.; one daughter, Kathy Powers of Wise; two brothers, Lawrence Bolling and Roy Bolling, both of Wise; two sisters, Artie Bailey and Norma Addington, both of Wise; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. BOOHER, MILLIE ANN PIERCE Millie Ann Pierce Booher, 93, of Edgemont Towers, Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2002, after a lengthy illness at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born on Feb. 11, 1909, the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Nellie Smithson Pierce. She was formerly a nursing companion for elderly people previous to her retirement. She committed her life to serving others and her community. She was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she served in the Women’s Group. She also served in the Bristol Tennessee Senior Citizen Group for 25 years. She will be remembered most as a loving mother, wife and loyal friend. Survivors include: sons and spouses, Jack and Bernice Booher of Bristol, Tenn., Joseph and Josephine Booher of Sherman, Texas, Vaughn and Patricia Booher of Bristol, Tenn., and Donald H. and Betty Booher of Bristol, Tenn.; daughters and spouses, Carolyn M. Booher Sandidge of Bristol, Tenn., and Teresa A. BOY, PAUL ALLEN VINTON, Va. – Paul Allen Boy, formerly of Bristol, Tenn., and Big Stone Gap, Va., slipped away Saturday, March 2, 2002. He was the chairman of Brotherhood Railway Carmen of America and retired from Southern Railroad. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Fuller Boy. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Smith and husband Randy of Winter Haven, Fla., and Brenda Dorton and husband Bill of Vinton; four grandchildren, Bill "Billy" Dorton Jr., Chris Smith and wife Kesha, Rachel Dorton Falls and husband Kevin, and Amy Smith McKenzie and husband Erin; and four great-grandchildren. BOYD, ANTHONY KEITH "TONY" DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Anthony Keith "Tony" Boyd, 45, died unexpectedly at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in a automobile accident. Born in Bristol, Tenn., on April 30, 1957, a son of Lee R. and Velma P. Leonard Boyd, he had resided in this area most of his life. Mr. Boyd moved to Florida two years ago, after living in Atlanta for 10 years. He was a contract computer analyst for Georgia-Pacific. Mr. Boyd was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Sullivan Central High School and East Tennessee State University. Mr. Boyd will be remembered as a loving son, brother and uncle and for his love of boating. Survivors include his parents, Lee R. and Velma P. Leonard Boyd of Bristol, Tenn.; two brothers, Gary Lee Boyd and wife, Oudia, of Blountville and Danny Wayne Boyd and wife, Barbara, of Bristol, Tenn.; four nieces, Angela Boyd Frazier, Carrie M. BROWN, VOLA MAE Vola Mae Brown, 91, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol, Tenn., and was a daughter of the late Roy Brown and Mary Ellen Perry Brown. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Emmett D. Brown. She worked for American Thread Co. and retired from Terry's Snack Foods. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Edith B. Campbell and Mary L. BROWNING, HELEN ETHEL Helen Ethel Browning, 88, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Bristol Nursing Home. She was born May 8, 1913, the daughter of the late Milton and Nora Booher Hayden. She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was formerly employed by Westbury Fashions. She was a homemaker, a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church and a member of various senior citizen groups at the Slater Center. Survivors include: daughters, Stella Johnson of Bristol, Tenn., Marilyn Barr and husband, Bob, of Bristol, Va., and Marie Sanders and husband, Burdette, of Bristol, Tenn.; son, Randall Browning of Bristol, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Browning of Chehlis, Wash.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. COX, EZRA B. Jr. Ezra B. Cox Jr., 86, of 105 Pinecrest Lane, Bristol, Va., died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born April 12, 1915, at Alley Valley, Scott County, Va., the son of the late Maude Alley and Ezra B. Cox Sr. He had lived in Bristol since 1930. E.B., as he was generally known, was educated at Virginia High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and received a bachelor of science degree in business from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a Bristol businessman and the founder, owner and operator of the Cox Company Wholesale Grocers and of Serv-all Institutional Foods. He was co-owner of Cox-Rich Wholesale Company in Johnson City, Tenn. Mr. Cox was also an officer of the Virginia Wholesale Grocery Exchange for over 30 years. He was a director of Dominion National Bank for several years. He was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church where he served for many years as deacon and elder. He was a former member of the Civitan Club. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Ann (Wheeler) Cox; a daughter, Candace Ann Cox Ellis and her husband Michael D. Ellis; and three grandsons, John Michael, Mark Gregory and Todd Austin Ellis. Other survivors include three sisters, Mary Cox Pippin and Ruth Cox Keller of Bristol and Willie Cox Rich of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. CROSS, E. M. Jr. PINEY FLATS -- E.M. Cross Jr., 84, of 880 Summer Sound Road died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville. He was born in Kingsport, a son of the late Eugene M. and Mamie Modern Cross, and was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Cross. He was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was a retired building contractor. He served as Sullivan County highway commissioner from 1958 until 1962. A lifelong veteran of the Sullivan County area, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a Mason for more than 50 years and a member of Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge 444. He was also a member and former Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star in Bluff City and was active in the Jericho Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Buffalo Ruritan and Enterprise Untied Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Fleta French and her husband, Ray, of Piney Flats; a son, Chris Cross and his wife, Linda, of Forest City, NC; a brother, Robert M. DONALD, HOPE FINNEY Hope Finney Donald, 79, of 1904 Lawrence Ave., Bristol, Va., died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in the Wellmont Hospice House. Born to James Roy and Willie Ann Finney, she moved to Bristol in November of 2001. She was of the Catholic faith. Ms. Donald had lived in Hong Kong, where she worked in the mission field. She was captured by the Chinese Communist Party and held captive for 10 months before her release. Ms. Donald was preceded in death by her father, James Roy Finney; and her husband, Peter Donald. EANES, MARY B. BLOUNTVILLE -- Mary B. Eanes, 85, went peacefully to be with the Lord Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Indian Path Medical Center after a period of declining health. Mary was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, born June 6, 1916, a daughter of the late Jacob T. and Mary Martha (Jones) Barger. She was retired from the Sullivan County Food Services as supervisor of the Blountville Middle School Cafeteria after 15 years of service. She was a member of the Blountville United Methodist Church. FOULK, CARL E. Carl E. Foulk, 78, of Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at home. He was born in Bristol, Va., a son of the late Hicks Foulk and Mary Hicks Foulk. Mr. Foulk was a member of Kazim Masonic Temple, the American Legion and DAV Hacklewood Post. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in Anzio Beach, Italy, Sicily and Northern Africa. He was a member of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he was serving as elder and had served as a superintendent of Sunday school and a deacon. He was the owner and proprietor of Bristol Auto Sales for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred W. Foulk; and a son-in-law, William E. "Bill" Scheuer III. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Colleen Frazier Foulk of Bristol, Tenn.; three daughters, Gloria Oster and her husband, Ken, Janet Shannon and her husband, Bill, and Leigh Scheuer of Bristol, Tenn.; a brother, Don R. Foulk of Cincinnati; three sisters, Katherine Sheffey of Kingsport, Dorothy Hills of Richmond and Linda Sparks of Bluff City; two grandchildren, Stephanie Leigh Scheuer and William Edward Scheuer IV, both of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. GERHARDT, RUTH ANN KINGSPORT -- On Saturday, March 2, 2002, after a lengthy period of failing health, while recuperating at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center, God called Ruth Ann Gerhardt home to join her loved ones who had gone on before her. Born Dec. 2, 1916, in the Indian Springs Community of Sullivan County, Mrs. Gerhardt lived on Park Street in Highland Park during her youth. Mrs. Gerhardt graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, the U.S. Army WAC Medical Corps, Medical Nursing Training and attended Arizona State University and Wayne State University. She married her first husband, Perry Bailey (deceased in 1934) and had one son, Dick Bailey. Mrs. Gerhardt worked at Tennessee Eastman Co. for nine years. She served in the U.S. Army Medical Nurses for two years, serving in the Pacific Theater where she received decorations of the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mrs. Gerhardt spent a short time in Tempe and Phoenix, Ariz., furthering her education at Arizona State University before moving to Detroit, where she met and married her second husband , Chuck Gerhardt, now deceased. She worked in drug research at Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals for 10 years, furthering her education at Wayne State University and later worked in medical research at Henry Ford Hospital for nearly 30 years before retiring in 1980. Mrs. Gerhardt was active in the Sullivan County Democratic Party and was past historian and secretary of the local chapter in Blountville. She continued to work with voter registration and assisted with health services for the American Red Cross until her recent illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Perry Scott Bailey; her second husband, Charles (Chuck) Henry Gerhardt Jr.; her parents, Thomas and Sallie Culbertson Dillow; her brother, Ernest Bailey Dillow; her sister, Katherine (Kay) Amerine Mayes; and a niece, Margie Kilday Guido. Mrs. Gerhardt is survived by her son, Richard D. (Dick) Bailey and wife, Edna Corder Bailey. GODSEY, THELMA TURNER KINGSPORT -- Thelma Turner Godsey died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Bristol Hospice House in Bristol following a courageous battle with cancer. She was retired from Montgomery Ward and was a very active volunteer with the Red Cross and Holston Valley Hospital for many years. HAMILTON, THOMAS "WAYNE" PINEY FLATS – Thomas "Wayne" Hamilton, 72, of 131 Henson Ave. died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Hamilton was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was a son of the late James and Margaret (Ramsey) Hamilton. He had been retired from the Post Office since 1973, and was a life member of MM Martin Masonic Lodge 547. Mr. Hamilton was a member of Poplar Ridge Christian Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his only brother, James Leonard Hamilton. HARMON, MARION HENRY Marion Henry Harmon, 82, of 422 Barker Lane, Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 2, 2002, in Cambridge House, Bristol, Tenn. He was born in Washington County, Va., a son of the late Jasper and Maggie Cadle Harmon. He had lived in Filbert, W.Va., for many years working as a coal miner until he moved back to Bristol in 1963. He was also a former employee of Old Dominion Plywood in Bristol, Va., and a was member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II, a member of McDowell Masonic Lodge No. 112 of Welch, W.Va., and was a member of Kettle Foot Rod and Gun Club of Bristol, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Marie Tester Harmon. Mr. Harmon was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. HASSINGER, WILLIAM E. William E. Hassinger, 96, OF 1732 Holston Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1905, in Forest County, Pa., a son of the late Luther and Letitsha Houghton Hassinger. His family moved to Konnarock, Va., where he grew up and loved to work in the woods with his father. The family moved to Bristol in 1929. Mr. Hassinger was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was an owner and president of the Hassinger Organization, which included Bristol Builders Supply Co. and Central Warehouse. He was a member of Edgemont Presbyterian Church, where he was chairman of the Board of Deacons for many years. He was a member of Bristol Host Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Murray Hassinger. Mr. Hassinger is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Hassinger of Bristol, Tenn.; a son, William E. HENDRICKSON, MARK DOUGLAS Mark Douglas Hendrickson, 56, of Edgemont Towers, passed away Monday, March 4, 2002, after a period of declining health. Doug was born Sept. 15, 1945, in Bristol, Tenn., a son of the late John A. and Georgia Goodwin Hendrickson. JETT, CHARLES STUART Charles Stuart Jett, 85, of 303 Morris St., Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at home. He was born Sept. 24, 1916, in Hiltons, Va., a son of the late James W. and Acie Vermillion Jett, and had made his home in the Bristol area most of his life. Mr. Jett was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Edith Glover Jett. He was a former employee of Monroe Calculating Co., a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Hacklerwood Post 145, VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 and the Masonic Lodge in Mendota, Va. He was also an amateur ham radio operator with call sign WJ4N and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a brother, James L. Jett; special friends and caretakers, Frank and Betty Arnold; special "little nurse" Payton Shepherd; two special children that looked on him as a great-grandfather, Wesley and Emily Arnold of New Iberia, La.; nieces and nephews, Barbara Quillen, Faye Fleenor, Freddie Mae Daniels, Rita Forrester, Billy, Don and Dale Jett, Lynn and Randy Glover, Diane Carr, Mavis Hay, Barry, Clarence and Pete Hemmingway, Connie Meadows, Brenda Green and Gary and Ricky Glover. JINKENS, GEORGE ALBERT George Albert Jinkens, 83, of 1123 Heather Road, Bristol, Va., died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at James H. Quillen Medical Center. He was born in Bearden, Tenn., a son of the late Henry Jinkens and Ethel Wheeler Jinkens. He was a restaurant owner in San Francisco before moving to Bristol in 1978. JUSTICE, RAYMOND KENTON Raymond Kenton Justice, 77, of Bristol, Tenn., died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home, Tenn., following an extended illness. Born in Pikeville, Ky., March 28, 1925, a son of the late John E. and Josie Mutter Justice, he resided in Grundy for 40 years before moving to this area in 1986. Mr. Justice retired from Jewell Coal & Coke Co. in 1977, after 17 years of service. Prior to his employment at Jewell, he was the maintenance supervisor at Grundy Hospital. He was a Baptist and attended Hickory Tree Union Church. Mr. Justice was a life member of the DAV in Kentucky. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. Four of Mr. Justice's brothers also served in the U.S. Military. A special thank you to Robert Wilson, a member of Volunteer Services at the VA and to the caring doctors and nurses at the VA Medical Center. He was preceded in death by six brothers. LOGGANS, LILA GLADYS FRAZIER Lila Gladys Frazier Loggans, 93, began her journey home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2002, at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Gary Clark, after a lengthy illness. She was one of five children born to Isaac Bee and Nora Jane Law Frazier on July 14, 1908, in Giles County, Bluff City, Va. She was the widow of Lonas W. Loggans Sr. She lived her early years in Narrows, Va., but resided in Bristol, Tenn., all her adult life. She is survived by granddaughter, Tammy Clark and husband Gary Clark; granddaughter, Teresa Mullins; and grandsons, Joshua Clark, Justin Clark and Elijah Blomquist. Also surviving are her children: daughters, Lee Mullins, Lake Wylie, SC, and Joann Pelarski, Marshall, Va.; son, Lonas Loggans Jr. of Morristown, Tenn., as well as an older sister, Carrie Lester of Princeton, W.Va.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a dear nephew, Cedrick Frazier of Pearisburg, Va. LONG, CONRAD N. Conrad N. Long, 76 of Bristol, Va., passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at home. He was born in Shady Valley, Tenn., where he resided until moving to Bristol in 1967. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was involved in the Pacific Theater of Operations, including landings at Okinawa, Siapan, Layte and others. He was a 40-year employee of Raytheon, 50-year member of the Mountain City Masonic Lodge, 15-year member of the Ohio Valley Military Society, a Registered Kentucky Colonel since 1995, a long-time member of Harmon Chapel Christian Church located in Shady Valley and was currently a member and elder of Shakesville Church of Christ in Bristol, Va. Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Long; two sons, Chris Long and Jody Long; one daughter, Beverly Martin; one stepson, Robbie Hatfield; four grandsons, Bart Long, Adam Martin, Nathan Hatfield, and Tyler Hatfield; and several nieces and nephews. LYONS, BOBBY JACK BLUFF CITY -- Bobby Jack Lyons, 44, 1461 Elizabethton Highway, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Carter County. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Edward Lyons and Danny Ray Lyons. Survivors include his father, Jack Lyons, of the home; his mother, Christine Sigmon Butterfield, Seattle; a sister, Connie Lee Lyons, Seattle; a brother, Johnny Ray Lyons, Jonesborough; a half-brother, Billy Jack Lyons, Elizabethton; a half-sister, Julie Taylor, Johnson City; and four aunts, Helen Richards, Nancy Lingerfelt, Ruby Nance and Martha Ward. Graveside services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Chinquapin Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the service. MABRY, HATLEY THEODORE "H. T." JOHNSON CITY – Hatley Theodore "H.T." Mabry of 2022 Sherwood Drive, Apartment 401, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Tupelo, Miss., he was the son of the late Roger Cossitt and Marietta Armour Mabry. He attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville. Mr. Mabry was a minister for more than 60 years, serving Christian churches in Illinois, Indiana, Western Tennessee and Northeastern Tennessee. He was a member of Harmon’s Chapel Christian Church in Shady Valley and attended church at Appalachian Christian Village. He served as the secretary-treasurer for Appalachian Evangelizing Association for several years. Instrumental in the development of the Appalachian Christian Village and he was on the steering committee that oversaw this project. Mr. Mabry served as a member of the Board of Directors at Appalachian Christian Village for many years. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Jackson Mabry in 1998; a daughter, Mary M. Modlin; a son, Hatley A. Mabry; and a brother, Roger M. Mabry. Survivors include his two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy M. and Scott Leslie of Piney Flats and Martha M. Davis of Pantego, NC; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service for Hatley Theodore "H.T." MALONE, G. IVAN PINEY FLATS -- G. Ivan Malone, 90, 273 Main St., died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Piney Flats on Sept. 21, 1911, a son of the late Arthur W. and Lydia Blalock Malone, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Azelle Virginia Hamilton Malone. He attended East Tennessee State University, taught school in Sullivan County and retired as postmaster of Piney Flats in 1976. He was a member of Piney Flats United Methodist Church, the Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association and was a charter member of the Piney Flats Ruritan Club. He is survived by two daughters, Judy Malone Price of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and Ann Malone Tipton of Piney Flats; a son, Glenn Thomas Malone of Knoxville; two sisters, Willie Malone Johnson and Hazel Malone Hudson, both of Piney Flats; four grandchildren, Kent J. Price, Mark L. Price, Kimberly Tipton and Ashley Tipton; and several nieces and nephews. MALONE, GENE Gene Malone, 79, of 116 Mulberry Lane, Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Friday, March 8, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. He was born May 6, 1922, in Bristol, Tenn., the son the late George W. and Lena Cross Malone. Mr. Malone was a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon. He was a retired employee of Davis Pipe and Metal Fabricators and a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kesner Malone; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lisa Malone; granddaughter, Paige Malone; sister, Evelyn Smith; brothers, Paul and wife, Clara Malone, and Joe Malone; and several nieces and nephews.
