William M. Knight’s Will

                   Know all men by these presents that I William M. Knight
of the State of Tennessee Smith County being now weak but of a good memory
and sound mind Do make this my last will testament and 1st to my wife
Frances Knight to have a decent maintainance and well taken care of and to
have my old mare (white foot) and her saddle to ride and to have my
household and kitchen furniture and farming tools & my present stock such
as hogs sheep cows (with the hereafter exceptions) And to have the east end
of my plantation and to the branch in the western part the rest or west of
the branch to be retained out after this year & my present provisions such
as corn oats fodder & meat & to have the Bible & Pilgrims progress and 2nd
to my eldest Son Latny M. Knight I have given a good mare and saddle &
bridle & bed bedstead & furniture & heifer & table valued at ninety three
dollars & fifty cents.  3rd to my next son Garland H. Knight I have given a
mare & saddle & bridle & heifer & thirteen books & a table & bed bedstead
and furniture valued seventy two dollars & 70 cents & six dollars in cash
amounting to seventy eight dollars & 70 cents and to have fourteen dollars
& 80 cents to equal Latny M. Knight’s.  4th To my next son Avery P. Knight
I have given a saddle bridle and a colt (the color sorrel) & a bed bedstead
& furniture valued at thirty eight dollars & 80 cents & three dollars in
cash amounting forty one dollars & 80 cents & to receive fifty one dollars
& 70 cents with interest to equal Latny’s part and 5th To my Daughter Nancy
K Knight I have given filly or colt (color bay) and a saddle & bridle bed
bedstead & furniture valued at fifty three dollars & 50 cents & to receive
forty dollars with interest to equal L. M. Knights.  6th To my youngest son
Woodson H Knight I bequeath fourteen books valued at seven dollars & 75
cents & to receive eighty five dollars & 75 cents with interest to equal L.
M. Knights. At my wife Frances Knights death all my lands & property and
estate is to be so divided that my children may have an equal share
and appoint Ellis E. Knight to be my only Executor and administrator
to execute my will  (wroteby my own hand) this 28th day of October AD 1853

Tennessee Smith County.  County Court November Term 1853
Then the last will and Testament of William M. Knight dec’d was produced in
open court for probate & the execution thereof duly proved in open court by
Wily Jones subscribing witness thereto of the handwriting of the Testatee
duly proved at same time by Miles F. West & Drury Cornwell when on motion
said last will and testament was ordered to be filed and recorded.
