The house in the background was owned by the local physician, Dr. George W. Herod (1846 - 1929).
It was located on the hill just north of the present Pleasant Shade Elementary School.
The little building behind Ramsey was the slave kitchen.

Note by Tom Dickerson: This was a fancy house for Pleasant Shade. It may have been built on the home
site of Dr. Peter Herod also a Pleasant Shade physician in the 1850s, 60s, and 70s. The slave kitchen
could be a remnant of Peter Herod's house. Peter Herod was the grandfather of George W. Herod.
