(7) Mary PETTY, daughter of Andrew Jackson PETTY and Susan BOZE PETTY died at the age of eighteen months.
Andrew Jackson PETTY married his second wife, Carey A Pettross Oct. 13, 1887.
They had two children: (8) John William PETTY and (9) Henry Dixon PETTY.
(8) John William PETTY born Oct 27, 1888- died Nov. 20, 1917. He was
born at Carthage, Smith Co., Tenn. And lived there all his life. He was married to
Lottie Elmira LIGON. They had two children:

Bill Petty and his wife are public spirited people who can be counted on to have a hand in anything going on that is good for the community. Bill was a member of a crew
That served aboard a B-24 bomber in Europe in the Second World War. Then as now, he did his duty as he saw it- then back home he, with the help of his wife, continues to serve- beginning at their on home where they have raised two fine daughters and extending it to their church, Bill is a successful business man, has served as Mayor of his town, a member of the council and somehow finds time to take an interest in working with the Boy Scouts, Bill and Geraldine PETTY are still young and vigorous people of the kind our Country needs.
(9) Henry Dixon (Jimmy) PETTY – born May 26, 1890 at Carthage, Tenn. died
Oct. 9, 1956 and is buried in the Moss Graveyard beside his wife and just across the river from his birthplace. Jimmy , as he was always called was a handsome man with the crisp, dark-red hair characteristic of many of the PETTYS. He was gay and charming. Everyone who knew him felt the warmth of his personality. He married Mamie Avo MOSS, a good and lovely woman, born Sept. 12, 1889 – died Feb. 1943 and buried in the Moss Graveyard at her family home. Their Children:
a-9 Carey Ethel PETTY born April 9, 1912 at Carthage, Tenn. – died Dec. 27, 1963 at Lebanon, Oregon and is buried there. She married Edgar Collier in 1940 and had lived in Washington and Oregon since that time. They had no children.
b-9 Mary Florence PETTY born Nov. 27, 1919 – married April 9, 1942 to John Allen HARVILLE. They have five children including a set of twins.
1- Kenneth Allen HARVILLE born March 4, 1943.
2- Robert Gerald (Bobby) born May 19, 1946.
3- Barry Lee and 4- Terry Neal (twins) born Jan. 4, 1949 and
5- Bruce Edward HARVILLE born Dec. 15, 1855.
c-9 Clarence Donoho PETTY born June 15, 1915 – married Oct. 20, 1935 to Roberta EARPS. They have two children:
1. Lois Jane PETTY born Oct. 3, 1936.

to Lucy Beatrice EARPS born Aug. 30, 1922. They have two children:
1- Faye Clyrene PETTY born April 10, 1943.

f-9 Cora Frances PETTY born Sept. 12, 1920 - married a Mr. HALLIBURTON.
g-9 Grover E. PETTY born and died 1922.
h-9 Jimmy D. PETTY died at birth.
i-9 William Clell PETTT born Sept. 26, 1924 has made military service his
career. At latest account he was a colonel in the U.S. Army stationed in
Germany. He married about 1950 to Reda ELLIOT a native of Massachusetts.
There are two sons:
1-Jimmy PETTY born about 1958.
2-Kevin PETTY born about 1961.
e-9 Helen K. PETTY born Dept. 26, 1919 - married about 1942 to Dwight
Dalton BENNETT. They have two children:
1- Larry Dwight BENNETT born Jan. 9, 1946.
2- Keith BENNETT born April 11, 1950.
j-9 Gladys Pauline (Polly) PETTY born Oct. 17, 1926 in Smith County, Tenn.
- married Royce O. CRABB. They had two daughters:
1. Deborah Lynn born April 6, 1954.
2. Judy Ann born Dec 6, 1956. The family lives in Roseville, Michigan.
Andrew Jackson PETTY was married 3rd to Betty GREGORY. 4th to Amanda SUTTON. He and Amanda had a child but both mother and child died. His 5th marriage
was to Elinor (Eliza) CRAIGHEAD and she survived him. (23)
C- The third child of Henderson B PETTY and Nancy Pryor GRESHAM was Mary C. PETTY born in Smith County Tenn. In 1848 - died of diptheria 1862 at
D- Martha Emmaline (Patsy) PETTY was born June 22, 1850 - in Smith Co.,
Tenn. - died Aug 25, 1924 near Carthage, Tenn. Where she had spent all of her married life and where all her children were born and grew up. She is buried in Gibbs Graveyard near South Carthage - she was married Nov. 18, 1874 to James Carroll GIBBS - born in Smith County Tenn. Jan. 7, 1844 a son of John and Mary GIBBS. James Carroll GIBBS died Dec. 28, 1926 and is buried beside his wife in the Gibbs Graveyard. They had seven children:
1- Mary born March 4, 1877. 2- John Henry GIBBS born Sept. 3, 1878.
3- Lenore GIBBS born April 10, 1880. 4- Carrie T. GIBBS born March 10, 1883.
5- Julia Frances GIBBS born July 1, 1885. 6- Margie Elizabeth GIBBS born March 31, 1887. 7- Nancy Pryor GIBBS BORN April 15, 1890.
1- Mary GIBBS born March 4, 1877 was married three times. 1st to Burton ALLEN, 2nd to Scott FORD and 3rd to James WHITEFIELD. There were two sons by the first marriage:
a-1 - William Carroll ALLEN born Oct 17, 1896
b-1 - Hugh Bridges ALLEN born Sept. 1, 1900.
c-1 - Robert Henry FORD was born to her 2nd marriage but I learned
nothing about him except his name.
There were two sons by the 3rd marriage:

e-1 - Willis Hayden WHITFIELD.

9, 1966 Smith Co., Tenn. And is buried in Dixon Springs Cem. He married Ethel HARGIS born April 14, 1895 at Granville, Tenn. Dau. Of Shelby HARGIS and Maggie REYNOLDS. William CARROLL ALLEN was a veteran of World War I. He served 1914-1916 in the famed Rainbow Infantry. He and Ethel HARGIS had three sons:
a- Rex B. ALLEN born Jan. 3, 1924 at Carthage, Tenn. He married Allie
Mai BROWN born March 3, 1927 at Gainesboro, Tenn. And they had two
1- Douglas W. ALLEN born June 7, 1948 and at present (24) serving in the U. S. Armed Forces.
2- Wanda Gayle ALLEN born March 31, 1953.
Note: Rex B. ALLEN served in his father’s old outfit, the Rainbow Infantry, in World War II, 1943-1945.
b- Leonard Cecil ALLEN born April 11, 1926 at Granville, Tenn. - married
Dec 11, 1948 to Winnie Belle FLATT born Aug 2, 1928 at Bloomington Springs, Tenn. They have five children:

b-1 Hugh Bridges ALLEN born Sept. 1, 1900 in Smith Co., Tenn. - served in
the U.S. Navy for a spell - came home and married Robbie S. POPE. They still live in Smith Co. and they have no children. (Right here, let me brag that we have no draft-card burners in this family! Indeen many of the lads whose names are mentioned in these pages have fine service records which are not mentioned, simply because details are lacking.)
2- John Henry GIBBS born Sept. 3, 1878 at Carthage, Tenn. - died at Carthage, April 25, 1948. I am not at all sure of my data on this family- a little of it I know personally. John H. GIBBS married twice - 1st to Matilda ALLEN - second to Vera SMITH. There were three children by the first marriage:
a-2 - Olga GIBBS married Eldon BASS and had one son:
a- Buford BASS.
b-2 - Irene GIBBS born about 1906 - never married.
c-2 Lemuel Campbell GIBBS married Mary Lou WILKERSON.
John Henry GIBBS and Vera SMITH had, I think, three children:
d-2 - J.R. GIBBS, e-2 - Henry GIBBS, f-3 - Linnie GIBBS who died when a
