James and Susie Violett
The above pictures are those of James E. Violett and his second wife, Susie. James was head/superintendent
of the County Home according to the 1920 Census of Smith Co., Tn.. An aunt told me years ago that he had
a son who lived at the home and was retarded. The 1920 Census shows this family as:

D14-162 Violett, James E. Head/Superintendant M W 64 M Tennessee
D14-162 Violett, Susie Wife F W 44 M Tennessee
D14-162 Violett, John Inmate M W 43 S Tennessee

James Violett passed away July 20, 1920, a few months after the Census was taken and was buried
in the Burr Manning Cemetery out from the community of Punch/Watervale.

James Violette's parent's were Edwin Douglas Violett and Susannah E. Hazzard Violett and he was born
on Lost Creek out from the Rock City community. He was double first cousins to my ggrandmother,
Sarah Jane Violett Fisher, wife of Enoch Fisher. Her parents were Chapman Romel Violett and Jane
Harriet Hazzard. If I am not mistaken Sarah and her cousin, Jim, are buried very close to each other in
the Burr Manning Cemetery.
