“Jim” is James Hershel Sykes b. 5 Oct 1858, d. 1 Jan 1919, William’s son from his first marriage to Hulda Baysinger who died in about 1859.

The other children pictured are from William’s second marriage to Amanda Virginia Turner on 28 Oct 1860.

“Wilson” is Thomas Wilson Sykes b. 14 Sep 1875, d. 16 Dec 1945.

“Robert” is Robert Franklin Sykes b. 16 Oct 1877, d. 11 Feb 1965.

“Mary” is Mary Etta Sykes b. 5 Aug 1866, d. 30 Jun 1947.

“William” is William Elisha Sykes b. 16 Dec 1831, d. 12 Jan 1908.

“Connie” is Connie Frances Sykes b, 29 Aug 1871, d. 9 Dec 1951.

“Jesse” is Jesse E. Sykes b. 25 Jul 1879, d. 23 Aug 1897.

“Amanda” is Amanda Virginia Turner Sykes b. 19 Feb 1838, d. 19 Feb 1922.

“Lucy” is Lucy Lee Sykes b. 5 Sep 1869, d. 16 Aug 1955.

“William” is William Joseph Sykes b. 15 Sep 1873, d. 26 Aug 1950.

“Sara” is Sarah Minerva Sykes b. 5 Feb 1862, d. 23 May 1944.

James Hershel Sykes “Jim” married Minerva Ellen Dowell on January 20, 1881, so we have assumed that this photograph was taken in 1880 when “Jesse” was less than 2 years old.
