"Pappy" George "Benton" Silcox
This article from the Carthage news paper was given to me by my grandma Woodard in 1980,
not sure what year it is from, judging by the way the men are dressed, I would guess the
Kennedy years (early 60's), It was sent to her by her sister Mrs.Elma West of Carthage.

Pictured 2nd from left is my grandfather "Pappy" George "Benton" Silcox. He spent alot
of his time in his final years sitting in front of the courthouse whittling.
One of my fondest memories took place in front of the courthouse, it was the last time
I saw my "Pappy", my family was in Carthage on vacation, I was about 10 years old and
we found him sitting in front of the courthouse whittling a piece of wood, my father
parked the car and walked my brother and I to where Pappy was sitting whittling, we
only spent about 15 minutes with him but the memories will last forever, that was in 1964.
