Johnny Wilson Merryman, 1876-1945
Johnny Wilson Merryman, 1876-1945, was the son of Thomas Preston and Mary Jane Smith Merryman.
In his early life he lived in Riddleton. He was a farmer, a tobacco trader, grocer and for a time ran a taxi
service between Carthage Junction and Red Boiling Springs. The above picture was made in Texas in 1899.
Later that year he returned to Smith county and married Callie Jolley. To announce their wedding, the
couple went across the Cumberland at the ferry at Beasleys Bend to Rome and to the fair. Their children
were; Joe Davis, Victor Beasley, Clyde Wilson and Ersye Meador Merryman, my mother.

About 1920, the Merryman family moved from Riddleton to Carthage to their new residence on
Carmack Avenue. Callie and Johnny are buried in Dixon Springs Cemetery.
