Susan Clark Douglas and Daughters

This picture was taken about 1922 on Hogans Creek in front of the home of Harrison Lee Douglas
and Susan Fisher Clark Douglas. Susan's first husband was James Thomas Clark. Jim died in 1913.
She married Harrison Lee Douglas, a Civil War veteran, October 18, 1917.

Amanda Gladys Douglas b. May 27, 1919, at Mr. Douglas's home on Hogans Creek. This house was a log
cabin at the time and was behind the residence on Hogans Creek that sits opposite the entrance to Ballenger
Rd. There is an ancient pear tree that is behind the current home and it stood in front yard of the log cabin.
Shortly thereafter, Harrison and Susan bought the house next door.

This is where Melissa Alice was born on August 7, 1921.
Bertha Lena Clark was born in Payne's Bend on Nov. 13, 1909.
Beulah Alberta Clark was born on Ballenger Rd. April 17, 1912.
Alice lives over on Bluff Creek.

Gladys married Allan Schwab of Pittsburgh, Pa. during the 2nd World War. She was living with her brother,
Ernest, in Norfolk, Va. when she met her future husband. The marriage took place October 11, 1944 at
Norfolk. . I was in attendance. They made their home in Pittsburgh until her husband retired. Upon
retirement, they moved to Wilson Co., TN, just across the border from Smith Co. She passed away at
home June 23, 1994. She was laid to rest in Pittsburg.

Beulah Alberta Clark married Raymond Crockett Baker of Hogan's Creek. He was the son of Lemuel Silas
Baker and Julia Frances Gibbs Baker. Beulah passed away in California Feb. 22, 1984. She and Raymond
are buried in Ridgeway Cemetery, Carthage, Smith Co., TN

Bertha Lena Clark married twice. Her first marriage was to Loda Elvis Hunt of Hogan's Creek. That
marriage ended in devorce but she bore three sons, all living in Smith County. She latter married Elvis
Smith. No children were born to this union. Although she spent many years away from Smith County,
she spent her last days there. She died May 20, 1995 in Carthage and is buried at the Smith Co.,
Memorial Gardens in Carthage.
