New Salem Missionary Baptist Church
The New Salem Baptist Church is located on Highway 70 east of Elmwood.
Elders E.B. Haynie, Daniel Smith, and E.W. Haile were three preachers for
the presbytery for the organization of the church in 1849. E.B. Haynie
served as pastor for approx. 25 years. Al Gore attends this church when
at his Smith Co. home.
